I am going into July class, and I am joining the national guard next Jan or Feb. My question is can I leave of abesece for military duty during a probation period and come back to force after done with all trainings?

July Class of the NYPD Academy? How are you so sure you're in already? Please, give me the number for the contact that told you that info so I can check my status :)

Then why would you have joined the USNG? Just curious.

Nationalism maybe.
I am pretty sure that no employer, including the NYPD, is aloud to discriminate based on military service.

God bless, I assume you'll be an officer (in the Guard) then?

I met many other officers and supervisors are currently working part time as national guard as working full time in NYPD. They have great benefits and 20 years of service to receive pension is great too. Also I want to do something for this country. Basically I am going to work full time as nypd officer and part time as NG.

I joined the Reserves after I was working full time for a municipality. Althought it wasn't NYC, I don't think anyone can stop you from joining.
Check this website out: http://www.esgr.org/
Their whole mission is to help Reservists get along with their employers. The people are very nice and helpful if you want to call them.

Any time you spend on military leave will be added to your probation. So if you go for 6 months, the clock will stop while on military leave. When you get back it'll start up again.
