Can Someone Actually Get On With This History?

Recent GED
Some College Credits
Multiple Traffic Violations
Multiple Arrests
3 Months in Jail
Past Heavy Drug Use/Addiction (marijuana, cocaine)

I know someone who tested a few years back for the NYPD with this background (as well as other things not on paper like stealing) and he was recently called for a physical.

How can this be? I worry about this person carrying a firearm.

With recent raises and the downturn in the economy, they can be picky about who they hire, so I think you should start looking elsewhere for a job.

It's not me, thank God. Someone I know and he's going through the process. Makes my head spin.

Even before the raises and the downturn in the economy, a repeat record like that would be a hard one to get by the investigator. He may get called for a physical, but get shot down with the BI.

Sled +1 i agree with you 100% they will let you take all the tests and then when you meet you BI you will be told to wait for a letter in the mail!

Good luck guys!

Not totally true. There have been instances where people with worse than that got the job. The real question is WHO DO THEY KNOW?

I don't even think it would get that far. My bet is he gets put on review at the Medical/Initial.

I don't think he will get on with his record.

that person just want to be a legally licensed criminal...he passed the medical and physical but he definitely won't pass the pysch doctor. they'll grill him for 45 min unless he's a real smooth talking person...

+1, he is not getting passed the psychologist. the shrink will have a field day with this guy, and laught his ***** once he leaves. i got a clean background and i mean REALLY clean and i got grilled for a good 10 minutes for stupid stuff.

Wow thats amazing that a guy like that would even consider law enforcement but that would be even crazier if he actually make it into the academy. Keep us posted on his progress. I personally have a crap load of traffic tickets for speeding and other motor vehicle violations and one arrest for reckless driving but there from all 5 plus years ago and I dont think my chances are all that great with that on my background. But if this friend of yours make it I'll know that my chance aren't that slim. And yes I know everyone is on a one by one basis so everyone's situation is different.

When you say physical, do you mean medical? I think by civil service law everyone who passes the exam gets called to the medical where you get a physical exam and have to do paperwork for any past drug use, arrests, or parking violations. I don't think your friend would make it past this step.

I'll keep y'all posted anyway.

LOL, you should read some of the stuff hopeful applicants say here! Of course they have all decided that they would make "good cops" either because their friends have said so or they "just KNOW"
