I completed everything that was needed to be done in regards to being rehired. I resigned in July of 08 and requested a rehire in October (the grass isn't always greener elsewhere). I did My Medical and Psych, met with my Investigator and she tells me that there's a three month wait between the time I fill out the background questioner and when they actually look into it and investigate. Someone tell me why it takes longer for them to rehire me then it did for them to hire me initially in Jan 06. Also, if I left in good standing and have done nothing to render a disqualification, am I pretty much banking on this rehire considering its a leave of absence anyway? Help a brother out.

I dont know much about this topic, i am pretty sure you have only a year to come back. Otherwise you will have to redo everything. Including the academy. Did you graduate? and how long were you on the job? If you didnt graduate, your not really a rehire, atleast i dont think so.

Not looking down on you or anything,Oct? I guess the pay raise made you want to come back? Don't blame you, it was pretty bad, but you knew something was in the works.. should have waited around see what happens, lost your retro and maybe the chance of ever getting back on.
Question for you... im guessing you dont receive retro for the time you worked, after you resigned right?
Anyway i wish you luck

Yeah, I got retro. I was on for 2 1/2 years. I left for only three months before I requested the rehire. My year isn't up until the middle of July 09. This should be plenty of time.
You have 1 year to request reinstatement. you have to do a psych test, background, medical and so on-but no physical. If you are rehired within the 1 year, you go back at your previous rank and pay with your seniority intact. If it takes more than one year to process (for instance-you applied within the year, but you were rehired 15 months later) you start at your former rank, but at the rookie salary with no senority. If you take more than 1 year to ask for reinstatement, then you have to start over from square one, including taking the entrance exam over again.
Of the people I have heard of doing this, most took about 6-8 months, start to finish, some a little less. The majority made it back in the 1 year, two that I know of did not, but they reapplied at about the 9 to 10 month mark.

What do they consider it? They consider it a resignation. It is extremly rare to get a leave of absence, and because you had to reapply, I would say that they did not give you a leave of absence, but you resigned.

Yea, its a bit of a process.
You will be generated a new tax number and the pension section needs to sort your numbers out again for retirement.
If you got a good guy letter from the department, I dont see a big deal. Just some patients.
If you dont mine, can you PM me the place you went to what wasnt greener. So I dont make the same mistake!.
