Certification Question

Hello, I currently live in PA and have my certification. I was wondering how I would go about finding out if and how my PA certifcation may be compatible with the CA equivalent like whether I would have to repeat the Academy or take an abbreviated version

I've heard the process is an administrative pain but it can be down. The downside is that many agencies will still balk at hiring folks who haven't finished a California academy. We have one guy who came from Maryland but when he first moved to CA the only place that would hire him was a very small poorly paid PD. Once he proved himself there he was able to get picked up by us.

You will more the likely have to take a 3 week course here in California to get Ca. POST certified. It is very simple. I had to take it recently. We had a guy in our class from Vermont. Take it, make good contacts and have fun.

I had a partner that came from Phily PD. He had to do our full academy
