LAPD officer fires at vehicle in Lakeside

An off-duty Los Angeles police officer opened fire on a vehicle in Lakeside Sunday night after he said he was involved in a hit-and-run accident with the other vehicle's driver, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The officer, who was with his family in his own car, was exiting Interstate 8 at Las Coches Road just after 8:30 p.m. when the accident occurred, sheriff''s Sgt. Tom Poulin said.

The officer followed the vehicle to East Lakeview Road and Kay Jay Lane, where he fired two to three shots at the other vehicle, said Poulin, who did not say why the officer used his weapon.

The sergeant did not know if the vehicle was hit or if anyone was injured. Poulin did not identify the officer and said the shooting is under investigation.

I'm guessing they aren't releasing a whole lot of info because of the media circus involved in the last two shootings.

Very interesting......I'd be wiling to bet money that the officer was a victim of a 417 after the tc and thats why the shots were fired.

LAPD Officer Investigated For Off-Duty Shooting

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― A Los Angeles police officer is under investigation for firing at another vehicle while off duty in San Diego County.

Authorities say Officer Ramon Zepeda fired twice at the vehicle after it allegedly drove toward him.

The vehicle then fled and it was not clear whether anyone was hit.

Police spokeswoman Sara Faden says the confrontation began Sunday night when the officer exited Interstate 8 in Lakeside and his vehicle was rear-ended by a car.

Faden says the car drove away and Zepeda followed it for about a mile to get its license plate number.

Faden says the car drove toward him when Zepeda got out to speak with the other driver.

Faden says Zepeda fired because he was afraid the driver was trying to run him over.

Sounds more like the off duty OIS last year in Corona, CA with an LAPD Officer involved.
