What does G stand for in your name?

no, not today, but I have it sometime soon.. From what I've heard if you're in any shape you should do just fine. I've also heard horror stories of overweight people spraining ankles hopping over the wall

Its quite mind boggling... Its seems extremely easy but its not... You will be winded by the time you have to pull the dummy and shoot through the ring. Just pace your self you have plenty of time... I passed but i didnt stick around to watch the others.. Alot of the girls went first and they passed so...

I got there at about 6:30 sharp but I would suggest u get there an hour later... Its freezing out there because of the water and they didn't let us in till like 7:30.. There were probably about 50 people and I got outta there by like 8:40

Just had the JST today (3/24). While yes, most of it is very easy I will tell you that the weights you pull from side to side is no joke. That is what got me winded for some reason. I don't know why it seemed to heavy but it just made everything else in that course seem a little bit steeper.

i agree with you and nypd g 100%. it looks like a joke, but then they slap the 35 lbs vest on you and by the time you get to the resistance part you are completely out of breath. most people passed, but EVERYONE gets winded. i was there 3/23 in SI and i think it might have been a little more than 50, i would say like 70. quick process though, maybe like an 1 1/2 tops if your last. im all done so now its just the waiting part. good luck everyone.

The push and pull is a total of 80 pounds. There's two 25 pounds in the middle and 30 pounds on the push and pull device itself. You probably didn't pace yourself. What was your time?

its not that. it is tricky. im 225 lbs and i bench press in the 300's and i had problems with it because my technique was all wrong. you have to use your legs. if you think you can just use your upper body then you will be very shocked when you get up to it. my legs were done from the stairs and i pulled something jumping the fence lol, so i couldn't get the right position on it. all im saying is don't underestimate it, and do some cardio before you take the JST.

It's 12-14 pound vest. and yes if you do not pace yourself, you will be screwed. It's majority legs, I am guessing because so many people work out upper body and ignore lower.

I've determined now that when it's my time to do the JST, I'm gonna jump the fence just like this.

after the 5th lap its a 35 lb vest! regardless if you work out your legs or not, if you use your legs to do the resistance instead your upper body you will be fine. all im saying is i dont care how strong you are, don't use your upper body on the resistance or you will drag ***** like i did for the rest of the course.

just a little advice...on the physical restraint machine....just grab the rope and lean back with all of your body weight and the weights will feel like nothing...same with pushing...just use your body weight..(also same principle on the dummy all bodyweight)..on the rest of the test its all endurance....more likely than not your legs will feeel like burning jelly afterwards but its all worth it ;)
i didnt really think it was very hard at all, i guess people just have bad technique or are really out of shape
and i would jump the fence like this JdotB

You think that's hard, wait until you make it into the academy and the cut the time to 3:28, and the fence becomes a wall.... It was easy for me though... I did it in 3:20 to get in the academy and 2:30 to get out...

actually i did it in 3:12, but i thought i was gonna do it in 2:00. all i was trying to say is that its not as easy as it looks. when you go to the gym 5 days a week for 2 hours a day its very easy to underestimate it. my $0.02 is that don't get too cocky thats all.

NJGuy is right. Everyone says its easy, and with the right technique and stamina it is. but underestimate it, and you'll be hearing them yell time's up before you reach the dummy.

+1 I thought I'd breeze by..
I lift regularly.. bench pretty high amount, but that doesn't help you run laps lol.. finished just over 3 minutes.. could've completed faster, but sometimes other people hold you up so don't brag about times on here hahah Also it's far from a timed competition to see who can complete faster. A 4:27 is the same as a 3:00. Pacing is definitely key.
The only advantage I can see being muscular is the fence climb and weight pull.. the dummy drag seems easier, 100lb females handled it without a problem.
The cardio is what gets you winded.. specifically the stair climb, and right after the weight-pull you really start to feel it. If you're too "tough" to admit it by then, the laps will kick you in the rear.
Also here's a tip: A lot of the women and smaller guys were trying to pull themselves up and over, but it's tough because there's a lack of upper body strength. It worked for some, but I saw quite a few fail. For those having trouble with the fence.. I saw this work pretty well for the people making their 2nd or 3rd attempts on the fence - hop up and then hook one leg over. Once you get one leg up and over you're gold. In the event you do fail, they have a tutor session after the test that you can stay for. If you want this job bad enough you'll stay..
Anyone who says they weren't reaching for air by the end of the test is a liar.
This test is a wake up call for the academy if you make it through.. start running now!

yeah honestly the processing has been moving very quickly for me, I expected it to take months.. I've gone for my medical, physical and written psych within a month's time-span.. I'm exam 4022.. I'm more than praying July is the class, otherwise I'll be reset to a walk-in exam I took last October (8312).
There seems to be more Cadets at every processing I go to, this kinda has me worried :(

Barxone, i think your good to go we all heard the rumors of the size of the class but i think even with 250 people hired you should be good to go. Just stay postive and remember this job will always be there..
Good luck!

You probably need to redo it because it is set to expire before the start of the academy. I have to redo my psych for the same reason even though it's not expired now.
