As the start date for 191 creeps closer and closer, for those who have already been through the RIO HONDO academy, what would you recommend we have in our war bags good to go for day one?!

I know we've been told by the senior class cadets during orientation to make sure we have extra everything.. may it be socks or undershirts for your fellow classmates... and also have an extra set of class Bs in your car JUST in case... is there anything else you guys could recommend we do?

Apart from the 3 inch binder, pens, our cover, PT Gear, (sweats as well), gun in locked case... what else do we need for the first few weeks?!

Thanks Dave... hows whittier?
Well for wanton just have extra I always kept an extra white shirt socks and underwear in a zip lock bag just in case and left it in my bag. be sure to have the norms like pen paper pencials and such. Also always always have your coraframs ie dress shoes even when the class is allowed to wear tennis shoes. I really didnt keep extra B's that was just me some people did some did. The first week do and the second week also on the day of your first inspection half way point have at least two pairs of pt's white tees and class b's. Um have extra PT gear always always. And adjust for the weather your goin when its from cold to hot so have the sweets then shorts. The gun case always have it in your truck after the first day since yuo have to lock it when leaving. Thats about it and always have your penal code and vehicle code books every day and all you need is a three ring binder. Also DONT DONT go and spend all the money on the LD's. The first day they give you a disk you can print out the tested ones if you want or try and buy them off of 190. If you really want to buy the LD's from kinkos BUY only the Tested ones it will save you money. there is no need to buy the none tested. You wil get a schedlue the first day and it will show you the tested LD. Also if you can go to the study groups afterwards it helps aot. A capt. from county does them and he gives out disk's try and get it it helps. Anything else PM it will take me time to get back but I will. Good Luck and remebmer its just a game thats all it is Who cares if you have to run do bell runs a pushs ups once its done its done. Just play the game.

I had to read that twice, just so it would make sense. Wow, it will be a sad day if you turn in a report like this...

It was not as coherent as it could have been, but I don't think he did it intentionally (looked like he was in a rush)...
...what's up with the criticism?

If you are going to write pertinent information, in an explanatory manor, use some form of punctuation and grammar. Especially if you are going to write a whole paragraph.

Self-sponsor academies get stigmatized because people view them as the place to go when you can not get hired on. The reply to the OP's question is so poorly written, that it really doesn't matter if it was intensional or not. A majority of law enforcement is paperwork and writing skills, not to mention doing it on-the-fly and under time constraints.

You can be captain save-a-hoe all you want, but I'm not working next to someone who can not write reports and take proper documentation and transcription of information.

Manner. Intentional.

If you are going to take the high-ground and start shelling us lowly "feeple" (feeble and people put together), please justify it with your extensive training and experience. From your profile, it says you are a student and do not work in law enforcement.

I hear that you have to eat cold food while you're still part of the junior class; senior class gets access to a microwave. Can you bring a burrito and eat it without re-heating? Can you bring a thermos and eat something warm? Or does it have to be all sandwiches, all the time?

Don't eat heavy...I regretted it especially after having a few foot pursuits during training. That burrito found its way back up fast.

A light soup and light sandwich (thin bread, thin meat and a leaf lettuce):D

Well, at the risk of painting a nice red circle around my backside ... I'm a vegetarian. And there's just so many days in a row I can eat a peanut butter sandwich (I don't do a lot of cheese). Soup is great. Also, the burrito would just be rice, beans and veggies, maybe a smattering of queso cotija. I make my kids lunches everyday (THAT will change once I'm in the academy;) ), so I'm used to making a variety of things to keep them interested. They don't get access to a microwave either, but a good, old-fashioned Thermos does the trick with leftovers.

thermos is fine, i would stay away from burritos even if eaten cold for a awhile. this will keep the red "X" off you for sticking out. Just eat that peanut butter sandwich for as long as you can until you are so sick you never want to see a peanut butter sandwich again, then switch it up. perhaps by that time you will have microwave privledges. do not count on getting microwave privledges though. that MAY come with time, and your class has to earn it. It also can be taken away any time.
