A guy I know recently got a background package last week. He has to report to the P.A. on the 31st of this month. Since he lives in Hempstead we're thinking it may be for the village especially since he didn't do to hot on the test.

WOW - thats the first sign of movement I have even heard of...keep us posted on what this guys deal is, if you can. Best of luck to him, man...if its the village PD's,I m still wonder how are the rich towns like Garden city and Old westbury are hiring? No resident preference there.

Yeah I asked him about the details, no response. I have a feeling it is not for the county, if it were I would think more people would be chiming in that they too received a letter. Who knows though..

ok I just called civil service and told the lady that my good friend received a package stating he was to report on the 31st to the P.A. She said he must live in a village lol. She confirmed that the villages are processing and the county list will be out really really soon according to her. Things are looking good :) By the way my boy scored a 73 lol if only I lived in a village...

Thanks for the update! - FINALLY some good news. I still take each rumor with a grain of salt - no offense at all - just we have heard so many - BUT with the villages moving, I am hoping something good might happen. Plus the fact you got this from Civil Service which is good...nice work.

Confirmed. He scored an 82 and is getting called for the village of Floral Park. Lets just hope the county can get something started now...

Hopefully not till the moment the County is committed to hiring. With the mass exodus of senior officers due this summer perhaps that will be soon.

One thing is for sure though if the list was to be established tomorrow, it wouldn't expire until March 24, 2013. I for one am glad Nassau decided to wait until establishing list #7000 since we received our scores last year.

If they're still not yet ready to begin hiring then we don't want those list numbers. Let the #7000 list go into 2014. :)

I would think that the county would put some recruits in as well, seems like a waste to have an academy for only a few village guys. This is only my own speculation of course. Additionally, with the expected retirements this summer, I think that the county will have to hire at least 200 replacements in the near future.

I called Civil Service today...and the lady I spoke to didn't know much about the list, only telling me it may be coming soon. (Thanks, I haven't heard that one before.) However, she did say that the packages being sent out now are by village PD's with residency preferences. All other village PD's that do not have residency preferences will have to wait until a list is established and then choose from the list, just like Nassau PD.

With that said, a class of only village PD's with residency preference would be small...so I'd agree that NCPD would possibly look to fill in some spots, along with the rest of the village PD's.

Ford - Hopefully this guy can shed some light on the situation especially if he has to report the academy on 03/31. I'd imagine they would at least fill these guys in on any future academy plans.

small update...My boy went to the PA yesterday regarding his background package. He is being canvassed by Hempstead and Malverne PD. Supposedly the next PA is going to be half village half County guys. Possibly early as July. If I hear anything else I'll let you guys know.

Su114 - Thanks man. I appreciate the follow up and the good news. So if a class of half village, half county goes in - the list should be coming out soon. I just hope they keep hiring off of it. Based on the rumor of a huge retirement, and this info today - we could see some long awaited movement.

How can he be canvassed by both Hempstead and Malverne? Dont you have to live in one to be selected by them? Can someone explain the process that villages select their police officers? I took the test in 2007 and I live in Franklin Square, would I be eligible for these villages?

From what I can see - about 9800 people on the list.

I have heard that they process 8 people to get 1 recruit. Looks like they sent out backgrounds up to #426 - perhaps they were going to have a class of
50. Who knows...anyway, great news, hope everyone did well.

Su114 - if I had to guess - you are in somewhere when they hire 200. Using an 8:1 ratio of candidates to hires ...#1 thru #1600 (roughly) should be good to go if they are going to hire 200 (at some point).

If they go with classes of 50 - your looking at maybe a 4th class - if its classes of 100, I'd say 2nd class. Just guessing for you.
