Just curious as to what supplements you guys take while working out, before or after, and what vitamins you may include in your diet.

I currently take:
NO-Xplode (pre-workout)
Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Protein (post-workout)
Multi-Vitamin (daily)
Green Tea Extract (daily)
Fiber Choice Fiber Supplement (daily)

In another thread someone pointed out a site about no-xplode type products (thanks by the way) so I'm researching this one a little more.

I'm searching for an effective and safe fat burner to expedite the process.

So, what do you guys use and recommend?

Currently I take:
1) Mega Men vitamin
2) Fish Oil
3) ZMA
4) ADS lean mass builder protein (post workout)

Thats it.

IMHO, OTC fat burners really aren't effective at burning fat and stress the adrenals way way too much.

You want an effective proven fat burner, short of the ephedrine caffeine aspirin stack, stick with olive oil, CLA, GLA, as well as proper nutrition. Expediting the process is the American answer for everything, and anything worth doing takes time. If you are having a problem, use the no carbs after six rule, only fibrous carbs, and do your 'fat' burning HIIT training in the mornin on an empty stomach...........that will expedite the process. Keep your protein intake up to avoid muscle wasting.

heh yeah. It really helps me, so I don't want to throw it in the trash just yet. I'm looking into adrenoline vapor also, made by muscletech.

ugh... this stuff really is no fun, lol.

Lol, I'm glad I don't take supplements. It sounds way to complicated, figuring out what products actually work and which ones suck.

Throughout high school i was hooked on animalpak.com products. Learned a bit through them and gained a lot of muscle using their products. The one thing i did learn that stuck with me is you MUST take a multivitamin.

So i do take a multivitamin and thats it now. i take the animalpak multivitamins they haven't failed me yet.

I do need to get on a decent protein though.

Here's what I currently use:

Now, what I use may or may not be what YOU should use, so this is not a video endorsing or recommending anything beyond what I have in my personal supplement intake. ;)

and recommend?

Depends. There's the basics, there's supps for specific neeeds, and there are supps that are just a big waste of $$$$ :o

Yeah, I've heard the same and don't have a lot of good experiences with what I've tried in the past, but the two products I mentioned I haven't tried.

I agree. But supplements are made to help, not make, a person get in better shape if they are doing other things correctly. And my nutrition is good and I work out 6 days a week, so I see no reason not to add them. And I try and research everything before I buy them as well.

But you're right, it does suck.

And WillBrink.... good God... I thought I used a lot of stuff! Thanks for sharing through bro. :D

I agree that supplements can assist someone with their set goals. I’m not totally against them, but it is disturbing though when you see a trainer at a globo gym telling a person who is severely over weight and looking for direction that they have to take X,Y,Z to lose weight and reach their goals.

We all know that is complete BS, beginners need to focus on proper nutrition long before they are taking supplements.

Always amusing when you see someone severly overweight feeding their face with fast food, but taking some green tea before hand to keep the metabolism up and running. (I've this seen firsthand.)

You mean like the person who goes into Burgerking and orders 3 whoppers and a diet coke?:rolleyes::eek:

Yeah, just amazes me. I have a good friend from high school who is probably 280lb, 5'7 or so female. She has been overweight since high school but it's gotten worse. Late last year she was rushed to the hospital when she fainted out of no where, and they blamed her weight. So what has she changed? She now drinks diet coke instead of regular.

Yikes.

I take a multivitamin in the morning and use Bodyfortress whey protein (cheapo wal mart brand) post workout...thats it. If your diet is well balanced and relatively clean you will get all you need from normal food.
Save your money and kidneys and stay away from most of the garbage thats out there.

Four years ago, I didn't understand anything about nutrition but needed to lose weight. I signed up at a gym, shelled out $600.00 for 8 sessions with a trainer and away we went.

The first session was all about all the extras I needed to buy. I had to buy seven supplements according to Mr. trainer and it had to be their brand. He put me on a diet similar to the Zone. I went for all eight sessions and didn't really learn anything, and I only lost six pounds.

I'm not real big on these so called trainers that run around the globo gym world.

Wow. See, that is a serious problem with a majority of the "globo-fitness" world.
I hate that, because it turns people off and they usually simply return to their uhealthy ways (understandably).

I had serious issues with the way my old gym did business and eventually left and built up my own home gym which has a lot of fun/unique things that will never be found in a "globo gym."
I can train anytime I want without a drive to the gym, idiots offering advice, idiots asking questions, waiting for equipment, pressure to buy/upgade memberships, monthly dues, old naked guys walking around the locker room, stares from soccer moms, stares from bodybuilders, etc etc etc etc etc..
I will never look back.....:D

Sorry to take this thread off course. But I will blame djblank for inciting me on this one!

Now about those supplements............

Eh, no worries, I appreciate the insight from you both.

And I agree and understand with where you are coming from.

I can understand that it's a business and that these folks are out to make money (trainers, gyms, supplement companies), it's just irritating that they are legally allowed to do it with something so important - our health. And the ridiclious claims they make, based on some half-baked "test", are allowed to be printed everywhere as long as they have the "These statements have not been evaluated by the foot and drug administration..."

ugh... so frustrating.

JSD73
03-22-2009, 12:56 AM
That's what's great about the supplement industry though, that they can make all these claims and there is a sucker born every second. I myself have fallen for these claims over the past 23 years and have wasted thousands of dollars that I wish I could get back. Does anyone remember Smilax Officionalis? Dibencozide?? Hundreds of supps I've forgotten about that I took in the hopes of attaining new and unprecedented growth but the one thing I've learned after all this time, is I love trying new things and seeing how and if they work at all. Yet I know that nothing accounts more than hard work, rest, and good nutrition, the rest is just extra.

If a supplement company, such as MuscleTech, touts the latest greatest bestest stuff on the market, you have to automatically ask, "why?" Because they show guys in lab coats 'testing' their products? Because of the morphed/distorted pics of off season bb'ers and their after shots?? Because they cost 3x as much as any other company with the same dang product?

It's easy to get excited over supps, I still do, but you learn over time, the most hyped product is not usually the best.

I go with a good multi vitamin, glucosamine w/chondroiton, Optimum Nutrition or Champion Nutrition protein and just got done with a month of Fuzion (another brand's NO-Xplode). I have tried lots of supplements in the past including pro-hormones. I try to keep it simple now to avoid the side effects, but have considered a cycle of Tren.

i take NO explode pre-workout and Muscle milk post. i also eat protein bars regularly. the reason i like NO explode so much is because it gives me an extra boost of energy. as for trainers guys, i feel that they are just motivators and nothing else. as long as your in the gym pushing yourself, you wont need that trainer. and i have a question....these supplements, is it a possibility that there is any other substances contained in them that may show up in a steroid or drug test? i have done my research and im pretty sure the answer is no but any feed back would be appreciated.

What type of protein bar do you take? I found one that I'm pretty excited about based on the nutritional values (no sugar, no fat, no carbs) and it tastes good.

There is ALWAYS a possibility.........anyone remember the old Hot Stuff.......everyone swore by it. Come to find out, the first few batches were found to have a lil dbol thrown in the mix.

You're more apt to find that risk with the pills though than the powders.

May I ask what that is?

Also, I've never really heard of fish oil before. Someone care to explain that to me? I actually Googled but came up with a variety of kinds of websites claiming differet health benefits so I would like to hear it straight from you guys. Thanks.

Most of the fish oil websites/claims all say the same thing.

i eat detour protein bars, it contains more calories and fat than some other bars but they taste so damn good. i can afford the extra fat in them because fortunatly getting lean is not a big problem for me. im 6'0" 178 pounds.

I'll give my first-ever response input as a newbie here as this thread caught my eye and I am a health-freak with an eye on nutrition and balanced diet. I am not an authority on what should you take for "body-building."

The Fiber is excellent if you are not eating enough natural fiber. I prefer natural foods to supplements whenever possible. Either way be sure to get your fiber. (I love prunes (Yea I am wierd) so I definitely get mine...)

Men need protein for muscle so get this into your diet the best way you can DAILY for muscle mass and even maintenance.

Now with that said a daily routine of vitamins could include:

COQ-10
Vitamin C (Preferably "Ester-C" with bioflavinoids) (Low dose - 500Mg)
Omega 3 fatty oils
Folic Acid

I take an 81 mg aspirin daily as a precaution (Under Doctors direction)

Other than anything your personal physican recommends for YOU that is all you need. This other stuff is just marketing hogwash or possibly even harmful.

Take the fast food out of your diet and add food of all the colors of the rainbow daily. These colors are nature's way of telling you they each have something different to offer.

Whey protein first thing in the morning and post-workout.

Either Muscle Milk, if it's on sale (just got a 2lb container for $7.50), or a casien protein right before bed.

Pre-workout I'll drink a Rock Star, cup of Starbucks coffee, or a NO-type drink if I find them on sale somewhere.

I've been cycling creatine mono for the past year, but I just ordered some Controlled Labs Green MAGnitude.

Also take multi-vit, fish oil, and green tea extact.

I ordered this earlier this week as well. It tastes ok and I've read a lot of good reviews on it. I'm hoping it helps me bulk up a little.

Muti-Mens Daily Vitamins
MAN body Octane for prework out(I don't like to use prework out products with lots of caffeine and other stimulants)
