I’m schedule to go through the LASD out of state application process on April 18th. I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight as far as what to expect.

How many days should I plan to be there for? Are all of the tests on one day? The info on their webpage isn’t too clear regarding this, and I haven’t received my packet in the mail yet. I'm trying to purchase my airline tickets and am not sure exactly how long I will need to be there for. Any insight or info would be appreciated, thanks.

I'm not sure what their compressed/expedited testing is like, but you may want to consider reading up on their hiring situation prior to coming here.

I'm aware of their hiring situation, but could it hurt me to get the process started? Eventually they will need to increase hiring again, so I figured I would get the ball rolling now.

Out of state testing for LASD is written and "oral" on first day. The oral just consists of talking to a BI, you'd have to try really hard to not pass that part. Then you go over all the paperwork you have to bring with you. They did livescan that day too. Poly was scheduled for the next day. I think they told me to plan on being there for three days but you should double check with them.

The financial situation is horrible with the county now, and if you are not a female, your chances are extremely slim.

+1000000000

also, we only have 100 or so openings that we can fill at the moment.....which are already taken up by the present two classes, and the several hundred we already have approved for hire.....

If we get more retirements later in the year, this MIGHT improve

Ron, have you called 1-800 A-DEPUTY? The recruitment personnel might give you a better idea.

The wait is killer though. It took me nearly 2 years from test date to academy call.

Yeah I called them on Friday and was able to get a better idea. They told me that they are stopping the out of state applicant process after April 18th. In fact, I was the last person that got on the list. I understand that hiring has severely slowed down for LASD, but I figured that since this was the last time they were going to be offering out of state for awhile (or forever) I might as well take the opportunity.

I have family in the area and the trip down will be free for me, so I dont think I have too much to lose. Im actually still in school so I can afford to wait awhile for the process. Hopefully it will pick back up awhile.

Im planning on looking into LAPD as well, but I know that they have ended their expedited testing, so it might be more difficult (and expensive) to get through all of the tests. Anyone know if LAPD is doing much or any hiring at the moment?

Yes, they are.
