I work with these fine officers every day. Sadly a few have pushed this entire dept into a very bad public light right now. It is sad because the guys here are great people. keep your heads up GPD I have a feeling even more sadly that after The state Police complete their investagation there may be more bad news coming. The chief says he is ashmed and embarrased. These times will pass and the dept will get back to normal. will the chief survive all this? time will tell.

They brought it on themselves, and it's going to get uglier before it gets better

I agree with you 100 per cent tactical. It's just hard to comprehend but alas cops are human and humans fail... I just think that if the chief really honors the "i have to answer for this line of C%$# he gave that he honors those words and turns his shield in and calls it a day" Barring that I hope MIke Green THe DA shows no mercy on any crime he finds there. I also hope the State police show no mercy either.

"I didn't think it was a serious accident" yet the victim was taken lights and siren by the Ambulance to Strong the sERGEANT WAS at one time a NYS certified EMT and he rode on Greece Ambulance as a volunteer and he's been a cop forever and it's not a serious accident? the driver leaves the scene but hell it's just aok? sarge what the hell is wrong with you? THis sucks makes the entire dept look bad and the thing that really sucks is this is not the only incident. We have the massage parlor scandals the off duty cops providing security for hooker scandal the trade oral sex to get out of speeding ticket scandal... I'll stop there cas there is more sadly.

While it's a job that has to be done, I'm glad I don't have to do it.

That PD is corrupt - the SP/DA investigation will bring out all the bad cops and let the good ones try and repair the damage they did.

Lets not jump the gun.. There is a big difference between "SERIOUS" and life threatening, or permenanty disabling. Just because some EMT (and I am one) decided to drive L&S, does not mean its "serious"... Each Dept. has specific guideline about the "reconstruction" of crashes. Some say only Fatals, some say "serious debilitating injuries" some say alcohol involved, so, the decision not to reconstruct might have been within guidelines.

If I were a Sgt. and I had an officer in a hit and run, with a pregnant female, would i reconstruct, PROBABLY, but i/WE were not there.

The other question i have is what were her injuries, was she treated and released, spent 1-2 days in the hospital and baby was determined to be fine, or is she permenantly crippled, lost the baby, lost an eye, has perm hearing loss etc....

I am not defending this Sgt. or Dept. cause I know nothing about the facts of either, but saying as the press did that a reconstruction should be done simply because an EMS unit left the scene with lights and sirens on is like saying that the Dr's in the ER should see a patient brought in by ambulance immediatley because they came in by AMB. Even if the person has a minor cut that requires 2 stitches to close, or their shortness of breath is due to a chest cold or U.R.I...

The other question is DID HE KNOW or SHOULD he have known at the time that one of his off duty officers was involved??? Obviously the officer was convicted so there was enough evidence to show he did it, but at the time the Sgt. was making command decisions, did he know that the vehicle belonged to one of his officers ?

There is nothing better than the benefit of 20/20 HINDSIGHT.

O.k. I'm off my soap box now. sorry

Yes the Sergeant knew that it was an officers vehicle. The accident was serious in nature due to the woman being pregnant and delivering her child prematurely, 15 weeks early. The officer fled the scene of the accident and didn't report that he was in an accident until about 12-15 hours later.

The scene wasn't secured, the vehicle wasn't impounded, no photos taken, no evidence tech responded, the officers brother was allowed to retrieve items from the vehicle that night.

I know the Sergeant that was convicted and I am from the area, it was clearly a **** poor job done all the way around. And if you rear end a stalled vehicle on an interstate with a pregnant operator without using your brakes until the very last second going about 75 mph, then that's a serious accident.

Police reports say Joseph drove down I-390 that night and crashed his car into another that was stalled on the road. Alexis Sharp, 24, was behind the wheel of that car and went into premature labor. Her baby Azaria was born 15 weeks early. She was just released from the hospital. "Baby Azaria is hanging on day by day, hour by hour,"

In testimony today we found out the Greece Police Department did not follow its own guidelines when it investigated this crash even after they found out it involved Nick Joseph - one of their own. That information came out with the testimony of Greece Police Sergeant Tom Schamerhorn.

He said he took over the investigation when he found out it involved Nick Joseph. their policy requiresHe admitted they did not secure the car or take photos and measurements at the scene even though it was a hit and run and that's what the departments policy is.
