Good morning all,
I grew up just outside of Rochester (Mendon), and have been away from the area for roughly 6 years now. I was in the Army for 4 1/2 years and have been a LEO in Southern Louisiana for a little over a year now. I have been in deep thought lately about returning home. I spoke with RPD, and they advised they will be hiring roughly 50 persons this go around. My question is what is the selection process like with RPD? Monroe County advised they will be hiring full-time sometime around November, anyone familiar with that process? A good friend of mine, and retire deputy from Monroe County, said to check out the smaller agencies around the city. Any information is greatly appreciated, as I want to have a base foundation set for the move back home. Thanks and god bless.

I believe the Rochester test was given in November, and its only offered every 2-3 years? I also think there is a current thread with folks that have took that test. Might want to check it out.

They are testing again 9 May, they advised that roughly 50 persons will be hired, I am unsure how accurate this figure is. It would be great to come home and continue my career as law enforcement, but it appears the recruiting process is much different in NY than the south. I guess i'll just keep my eyes open and wish for the best.

Being from Down State, just wondering, what is the city itself like? I have tried to research everything about it, but just wanted more input.

It is true that they will be hiring 50 people. The academy is scheduled to start september and they have went to great lengths to make it a smooth and convienent as possible especially for out of towners. FYI, I'd say at least a third of the dept. is ex-NYPD laterals. Also, this should be the last big hire for a very long time as we have had several 30 + classes in a row. The city is typical western/upstate ny with a few trendier areas. The average seniority is actually down to only about 3 years so it would seem to be an ideal time to sign up. Also, we have a very strong union which is why we enjoy many of the benefits we do. The academy staff is superior, the facility top notch, and we have the BEST firearms/tactical training in the state at the academy level.

thanks hustle. Just got an automated call from Rochester Police. They say I should attend the minimum of two sessions to be held at the Public Safety Building at 185 Exchange Blvd. And that there is one on March 30th and one on March 31st, running from 5pm to 9pm. What do they generally go over during these sessions, besides the test itself?
