I called the LAPD today to set up my expedited testing as a lateral transfer and, according to several recruiters, the expedited process is no more, as of today. This is problem for myself and other non local applicants. This is new for the LAPD so they don't have an answer on how non locals should proceed, at this time. Thought I would post this so others scheduled for expedited testing could check to make sure it's not on hold.

Wow. Seems like a really stupid thing for them to do unless it's a precursor to a hiring freeze.

Good luck to you, CPDLEO

i live in Arizona, and dint bother expedite...its always fun to have an excuse to be road tripping :-) L.A.P.D will soon reach their goal for officers on streets...so you never know, maybe they're about to slow everything down!

Thanks 2Sam42! I hope they allow for scheduling of at least 2 steps back to back. I'm sure it's due to budget cuts. According to the recruiters they are putting 60 in the academy every month and don't plan to slow down. I highly doubt a hiring freeze is coming to LA. Everyone is feeling the economy and if that means no expedited testing, so be it. I don't think LA would survive a hiring freeze.

Or maybe they dont need it anymore! LA has a tough unemployment rate right now. Maybe they are able to draw fine from the local population.

Did you speak with Kasondra Evans or a recruiter who answered the phone? Seems to me that it wouldn't make sense to do away with it because there really is no other logical way of completing the testing if you live a distance away. If anyone has any other insight I would be interested in hearing it.

I first heard the news when I called to schedule my expedited testing and was informed it was no longer available. I then talked to two recruiters for advice on how to complete long distance testing, both who answered the phone, confirmed the testing process cancelation. The best solution I was given was to pre-register for the written and hopefully the PAT will be available the next day and maybe the background. I would be happy if I could get 3 steps done in one trip. Since this news is brand new there hasnt been a good solution to the problem. I would give LAPD recruiters a week or two to come up with a solution. The recruiters I talked to sounded extremely upset about this and told me academy classes are hard enough to fill as it is. So I doubt they are getting great local applicants. Who really wants an individual who has no interest in LE, who was just layed off, being the police just for job security? I know 99.9% of departments don't.

Yeah you have some great points. It will be interesting to see what the reason is.

I just called LAPD and got the same response. If anyone has any other insight, I would be happy to hear it.

I have a scheduled expedited testing process in ten days. I'm going to call on Monday and talk to Kosandra and make sure that they're still doing it, cause if not I'm going to be beyond mad, my ticket out there is nonrefundable. I'll let everyone know Monday what the verdict on expedited testing is.

They told me that if you are already scheduled for the testing then you will be fine, but I would still double check.

You should be fine. They are doing the testing until Mid April so I would imagine you will be in one of the last groups getting the chance to do expedited.

I went out in December for the expedited and passed everything and am scheduled to finish the testing in a few weeks with the last test.

Good to know, I'll call just to double check. Quick question, do you control the speed on the treadmill test or does the examiner change it to predetermined levels?

You don't do the treadmill part until you pass everything from your first trip out. They only schedule you for the medical if you have been cleared from backgrounds. Thats the part I am schedule to do in a week. It is set to predetermined levels though.

I'm a little confused. The recruitment department sent me a schedule of the three days that I will be testing and this is how it is set up: Day 1 PQE, Background Investigation, and Oral Seminar; Day 2 PAT and Polygraph; Day 3 Written Psych and Department Interview - All testing is contingent upon you passing each step. Did you have a similar schedule or was yours different?

There are two parts to the PAT. From the LAPD website "The Physical Abilities Test (PAT) consists of two portions. The first portion of the test measures strength, agility, and endurance; it is normally offered twice monthly.(This is what you will be taking on your first trip out to L.A)
The second portion of the test measures aerobic capacity; it will usually be administered after the Medical Evaluation. That is the treadmill part and only scheduled if you pass backgrounds.

Oh I see, I was under the impression that both portions were given at the same time. Thanks ht212, and good luck to you in the process.
