i am a mp going into civilian law enforcement, does anybody know any differences between the two?

As a Former SF/MP in the AF there is a vast difference in how you conduct your time. Far more emphasis while be on ensuring that you do not violate anyone's civil rights, recording and reporting everything under the sun, and be subject to far more scrutiny. In addition the ramifications of violating someones civil rights is three fold. In addition to departmental discipline, you can face criminal and federal discipline.

Also research Community Oriented Policing or Problem Oriented Policing. This is the new focus of most every department.
