I was talking to another Marine in 29 palms and he was told if you pass the written exam, pysical fitness test, etc the LAPD will buy out your contract to get you into the academy asap. Is there any truth behind this statement?

Maybe, but you better verify that through LAPD. I am in the process with LAPD and there are a LOT of people applying to them because they are one of the few that is hiring BIG numbers of people. They can be very picky because of the big pool of applicants.

I find that HIGHLY unlikely, they have so many applicants that I can't imagine that they would pay for more. But you should ask here http://policebackground.net/Forum/index.php

that would be cool but i doubt the marine corps would even allow it. they are recalling a lot of former mps that got out recently. there is a real shortage of manpower.

I participated in entry level oral interviews a few days ago and had two Marines interviewing. Neither of them mentioned this, nor did any of the staff at Personnel. However, nowadays, nothing would surprise me.
I doubt any agency would do that, especially since there's a vast hiring pool of former Marines (w/ Iraq & Afghanistan service) on the market.
I see you were in FAST Company. Didn't know that still existed. Right on. Last time at 29 Palms was for a CAX back in Oct 92. Doh!

LOL....thats a good one, devil. If you haven't already learned, do not believe ANYTHING any Marine says, even your boys. Like the others said, there are plenty of us out here already trying to get hired. There is no reason for them to "buy out an enlistment contract." I'm a former grunt with a B.S., and I can't even get a foot in the door with an agency right now.

Yeah it sounds like someone is telling tall tales. Im sure every Marine is familiar with the rumor mill (the Lance Corporal hotline) that is generated when Marines get bored. "Yeah man, I heard were getting a 96 this weekend I heard it straight from the CO's mouth, when I was cleaning the CP" and then you end up in the field that weekend. I've learned not to beleive anything until I see it for myself.

IronBruin,
I'm coming for expedited testing in two weeks and was wondering, if I pass all three days do I meet with my BI before I fly back home or will I just fly home and enjoy the wait?
Thanks.

You won't meet your BI at that time, it takes awhile for you to be assigned one. Your BI will call you when you get assigned.
