I called a New Castle County recruiter a few months ago and was advised that they accept officers from other states. Has anyone went through the process? If so can you shed some light on the length of the process and what all you had to go through? Thanks in advance.

I had some pre-certified officers go through with my NCCPD Academy class.

If the Delaware Council on Police Training (COPT) accepts your out-of-state certification, you only do a month of training with the academy which focuses on their defensive tactics/use-of-force procedures, Delaware criminal and traffic law and procedure, and other internal operating procedure type things. These guys were treated as officers, not recruits, and not subjected to the normal "high-stress environment" that the regular recruits were. I've heard this last bit changed somewhat with the SGT they now have running the academy.

If the COPT does not accept your certification, you do the complete 28-week academy with all of the other recruits. It's up to the COPT if your state's certification is good enough, not the agency. I had a guy who did two years with DC Metro PD have to go through the full academy with my class.
