Hey all, I just recently joined www.leo.gov, a website maintained by the FBI. It has news and info, much like the home page of O.com....but, its membership is restricted to verified LE only. There appears to be no fun and frivolity like we get, here. It's strictly business, and maybe that's not a bad thing. There are forums and e-mail available for conversing/contacting other LEO's on the site.
There are many special interest groups (SIG's), such as ones for negotiators, terrorism investigators, bomb techs, fraud investigators, tactical medics, etc. and those SIG's require a second membership review to see if they're going to let one in.
You fill out the app online, print it out, FAX in your app and wait for them to e-mail you back that you're in.

Well that kind of explains it then doesn't it.
Don't be surprised when the hypnotic programming takes over and you find yourself starting to think like one of "them"

I don't know if I could ever think like one of "them.":D
I'd like to think I actually did some "street police work", during that 30 years I spent in the big city on the west coast.
Thanks for the concern, nonetheless!

I went to an Anti-Terrorism class in Wisconsin a few years back and they highly encouraged all of us to join and I recently downloaded the application and filled it out but the FAX number listed on the page is no good and I can't get it to the FBI.
Did you have the same problem?

I think that was an issue. If you have that multi-page app (readers, don't worry, you only fill out a few blanks) there is a voice contact number either on the website or the app to contact them live, 24/7, and get the correct one.

Caution: if you hear the distant whir of the black helicopters, take cover!
What if you don't have access to a FAX machine?

I didn't see anything that said reserve officers couldn't join. I wonder if I am eligible.

They actually recognize us lowly Corrections Officers as LEO's and allow us to join. I personally do not belong but one of my supervisors has access. I was given the packet when I took a forensic computer class from NW3C in 2000.
I guess you could say I have been a member since it was accessible via dial-up only, maybe 15 years ago. With the proliferation of the internet, it's kind of gone by the wayside for me, and I haven't checked it in years.

Pretty broad criteria for an application.
General Membership
Law Enforcement Online (LEO) will accept and approve members affiliated with the criminal justice system, intelligence communities, military personnel and governmental agencies associated with infrastructure protection of the United States. Other individuals will be considered on a case by case basis as determined by their role offering direct support to the Criminal Justice System.
The Criminal Justice System consists of law enforcement agencies, to include campus police departments, correction agencies, probation and parole entities and prosecuting attorney’s office on the federal, state or local levels.
Intelligence analysts from federal, state or local agencies will be accepted as members. Intelligence analysts working as contractors will be reviewed on an individual case by case basis.
Active duty military will be accepted as members. Soldiers in a Reserve or National Guard status will be reviewed on an individual case by case basis.
Emergency Management Personnel will be considered on an individual case by case basis. Emergency Personnel include, but are not limited to, Public Safety Directors/Commissioners and employees of state and local emergency management offices.
LEO Program Management Office (PMO) reserves the right to allow temporary membership access to LEO for individuals who are participating in special events, exercises, natural disasters or training exercises with the time period of membership to be determined by the PMO.

...No ma'am, we at the FBI have no sense of humor that we are aware of.

When I get back to work I'm going to apply..... sounds like a great site, and we can post LE stuff without worry that other eyes will see it...
Thanks
