Anyone work for the dept., or know anyone that does? I currently work for NYS corrections, have been for the past 2.5 years. I noticed they are hiring and pay more then New York, i have a couple buddies that are trying to get me to move out there. so i figured this could be a good reason to. so i guess im wondering how competitive it is and how the job is overall. also i was wondering about resident restrictions?? the site doesn't really mention anything about it.

Rumor has it, record turn out for this test is predicted. Also, not a whole lot of positions being offered. If your already a CO they do give points for experience.

I was a Mass. state CO for 5 years.I worked every security level from super max to being a Drill Instructor for the (now closed) prison boot camp program.I was also a member of the Tactical Response Team.I would not recommend the job to anyone unless it's the only law enforcement job you can get.The academy is 10 weeks long and is "paramilitary".There is no field training program.Pay and benefits are decent but Taxachusetts is a very expensive place to live.Training and equipment is about 20 years behind the times although the Special Operations Division (Tactical Response Team,Special Reaction Team (SWAT),K-9,Crisis Negotiation Team) get some pretty good training and equipment. The DOC is just getting semi-auto pistols for regular officers.Sig's I believe.Only CO's assigned to armed posts carry firearms i.e. perimeter patrol, gun towers, outside hospital details.Inside CO's carry only keys, radio, and handcuffs. No stab resistant vest,OC,Tasers,or batons.Massachusetts is a very liberal state and the prison administration is no exception. Most of the administators started out as case workers rather than guards. As far as "action",most days are pretty routine although things can get ugly in the max and even medium facilities.Mass. prisons have their share of riots, hostage takings, escapes, stabbings, etc.

I took the test on Saturday, and there were a lot of people testing. I forgot to ask what the turn around time was for the results. Anybody know? Thanks
