I just read the article about NOPD going back to the light blue. I know it is a tradition down there, but I really feel the dark blue looks better, and it is easier to hide in at night if youre out snoopin and poopin. I am biased I guess because we have worn dark blue for so long. What do you guys think. Would you change colors of shirts if you could? Or do you think it matters?
I like the navy blue for PD, tan/green for SO. The light blue makes cops look like security guards, IMO. But what I can not understand is why some agencies wear white shirts.

The white would suck I think. We get these dirty so often, white would be scary. One good thing about the dark is that when you get soemthing on them, dirt, mud, whatever, you can usually clean it off with a wet rag as long as it is not too bad. And no, I am not one of those guys who wears torn dirty uniforms, but I will spot clean it to get me through the day.

I'm S.O., so I am very partial to the Tan shirt and Green pants. Tan hides the coffee stains on my shirt and the green hides the grass stains when I trip over sprinkler heads and wipe out on the grass on the City Hall lawn (long story, don't ask )
White shirts may look nice in the locker room, but I couldnt imagine trying to keep them clean all shift!

I had White shirts with Black pants in Ohio. Wasn't so bad.
Now I wear a Brown shirt and Tan pants. The tribal branch of our department wears Brown shirt and Brown pants. I don't like that at all. UPS cops.

When I started we wore black. New mayor and his mom thought we would look good in white shirt and black pants. 16 years later and a new chief and he switches us from white to grey shirt and black pants, then navy blue complete. We still wear the navy, I like it. Here the city owns and provides the uniforms so it's their choice what we wear.

I'm SO, we wear dark green/black shirts and black BDU pants. Best looking and most comfortable uniform of course that's just my opinion.

The gray bag suits me. Most stuff isn't too noticeable on it except for salt stains in the winter. A solid uniform color always seems to look better to me, unless it's BDU's and polos.

French blue is the prevalent colored shirt in NJ. It started with the NJ State Police in 1921 and all others followed suit through the 80's & 90's. I can't stand French blue. I would prefer navy.

I guess we're weird; black shirt, black pants, gold decorations.

Let's see:
In Nebraska wore Lt Blue shirt with Navy pants, silver 'brass'. Was ok, but even a small belly looked enormous because of the color contrast.
Then at Tarrant County, it was Black and Black with Gold. Looked real sharp, and as was mentioned above, if you did spill something on you during the shift, it was easy to hide.
Then in South Texas, it was French Blue and Navy with Silver. Again, don't care for the contrasting colors.
Back in East Texas it was Lt Brown and Dark Brown, we wear black and black now (both with gold), but I don't wear a uniform anymore, so I don't really care.

That is what we wear at Iowa DOC.....brown over brown BDU's................we look like big tootsie rolls walking down the range.

White is not that hard, I had a security gig that wore white you just have to wash them a tiny bit more often.

I wear Tan shirt and pants. They are spec'd for us. Only certain uniform companies make it or you can have it tailored made. The pants have a yellow on blue traffic stripe that I have heard cost more to make than the pants themselves. There also two different cuts. The regular cut which have the pants pocket in line with the stripe. The western cut which have the pants pocket at an angle from the belt loop to the stripe. The western cut has a little more room. In wet weather or if special duties, we can wear blue BDU's. My area is a "cold" weather area, so we can wear a lined one piece jumpsuit. They feel like warm pj's.

I worked for a sheriff's dept and wore poop brown!
The other places I worked/work wear the light blue shirts. I love the light blue shirt, navy tie, and navy pants with the light blue stripe. :D
I do really like the uniform that the Michigan State Police have though. They are pretty sharp!

With our previous admin we had 511 beige cargo pants and dk blue pull over shirts,we looked identical to the Catholic school kids down the street.:(I hated them, you could never get the wrinkles out of the pants(even dry cleaning/pressing)so you always looked like you just slept in them. Now we are back in class As' with tan shirt, navy blue pants,I love them.:D
FWIW,besides tradition,NOPD is going back to the light blue because of the comfort angle. It gets awfully hot and humid down here.

Midnight Navy Shirts and pants for us. I do like the OCSO Uniforms a great deal, though. Minus the flair.
