View Full Version : How tech savvy are most officers?

Obviously, I'm not a police officer, but I work for crimereports.com which provides crime mapping and analysis tools to over 400 law enforcement agencies nationwide, and I was wondering about the number of officers that are into tech savvy kinds of things like blogging, social networking (like Facebook, MySpace, Twittter), and how many follow blogs dealing with crime reporting issues (or if you would be willing to follow a blog about crime mapping and crime analysis issues).
Basically, I have created a blog that I hope will serve as a one-stop resource for officers interested in crime analysis issues and I'm wondering if there is any interest for this type of resource.
I hope this doesn't break the terms of use because I'm not trying to advertise, I'm just trying to get some feedback from experienced officers about the types of web resources you find useful. I would be grateful for any type of feedback you could give me.
You can visit the blog here: crimereportblog.wordpress.com (http://crimereportblog.wordpress.com)

I am quite tech savvy I would say. I build computers on the side and I am not a stranger to network infrastructures. Though, before I entered into Law Enforcement I was a Network admin. :p

I write for a computer website on the side, I'm very tech savvy. I work with another guy with some sort of IT degree as well, he does all our PC work.

Probably age dependent, just like any other non-tech job. I've got a (now useless) fist full of computer certifications and a shiny degree that I used for a couple of years, but I bet there are high school kids who know a ton more than me now.
I can set up a router or bridge, but am clueless as to the social networking stuff. I do know what Twitter is because I saw a magazine article on it, but that's about it.

My wife and our CATS have a myspace page.
The less of me on the internet, the better. Once you put something up, it never comes down.

Link is safe for work, if your agency allows it. If not, check it at home. It's a social "shout out" type website.

Yeah, I would say it's just like anything else. Some people are on the tech side of things..others, not so much.
