Boston PD hires of the civil service list. You MUST be a resident in order to get consideration. They only hire residents and you must live in the city for atleast 5 years after hire. The cut off for most civil service examinations is 32. You can write and apply for a waiver however.
Also be advised that they may be cutting up to 200 officers. The citys budget is a **** show.

Just a little more on Boston....they just up'd the age to 40...you will have to live in the city a least one year prior to taking the civil service exam which is offered every other year. (Police and Fire alternate years). Not sure but I believe that you now have to stay in the city for ten years as of this contract and then you can move out. They currently do have one academy class in...but with this state's budget crisis..I can't see them putting on anymore for a while...this class could actually face a layoff...also being Mass if your not a Vet then you stand little chance of being hired at all due to civil service rules as they get hiring preferance...
