Any New Information On Hiring In The Hawaii Area?

No one seems to really say much about any of the departments down there.

Aloha, Currently the Honolulu Police Department is not hiring... I heard that recruitment will start up in September 2009.

They stopped hiring right before I became of age to apply. I've just been working for Japan Air for now, checking back the site, staying away from trouble, and playing the waiting game.

Honolulu Police isn't hiring. The last Academy class was there largest ever 62 recruits. 56 men and 6 women.

Also HPD is half way through there pilot project testing 6 hybird patrol cars. They are using toyota camrys.

Hawaii County Police Dept. (big island) is patrolling on bikes now been awhile since that happened.

Thats all I know so far.

I was just curious on how officers can afford housing there. Even with a family with 2 incomes, 500k for a house seems impossible.

i was pondering the same idea when i visited down there. I was going to apply in the last process but realized with the low starting pay i would be living in a box

A lot of officers I know live in town houses, which is much cheaper than normal homes.

HPD still isn't hiring but I recently attended an informational meeting about their reserve officer program and got a chance to fill out an app for it. Anyone interested in HPD might want to check it out, the reserve officers go through the same training as full time recruits, its a great way to gain experience.
