I plan to buy a handgun. Will this pose a problem for me when I apply to be a Police Officer in one to two years?

And if I do go ahead and get a handgun, is there a resource online that I can access to understand the legal rights and responsibilities of gun ownership in the State of California?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I own many guns. I bought more while in backgrounds, never had an issue.
There is a book called How to own a gun in CA and stay out of jail. It is about $25 online and a must read for anyone who owns a gun here.

hypothetical situation. Quovadis buys a gun legally at a gun show in arizona, he moves to california. In arizona the gun was registered in his name, does he need to re-register the gun in california? If so how would he go about it?
I don't think he needs to since the serial number of that gun is tied to his name through government(ATF) records but want to know the answer for my friend who is looking to carry at his work.

New residents to California are required to register their handguns with the state within 60 days of arriving on DOJ form:

Go to the California DOJ website for this and other questions.

Well, because the idea of moving to a new state and having to declare your guns and register them makes me sick.
