This happened several miles north of my city.
According to comments left on this article and other news websites, the Modesto Police are now "trigger happy nazis" that could have shot this poor man in the knee or something.

Bringing a sword, knife or any other sharp instrument to a gun fight is never a bright idea! Too bad for the suspect, but at least the officer can go home in one piece.

I couldn't believe that someone who commented on the article asked why the Officer couldn't just taser the guy. I was like "HELLO!! HE HAD A FREAKIN' SAMURAI SWORD!!"
People these days....

NAIVE folks in the media DON'T care about an officer stabbed or cut ! I was stabbed in the left hand by a car burg suspect who wielded a screw driver in '93 ,and the FIRST question my then Sgt asked me was "why didn't you shoot that fool ?
funny but the LASD hosts and trains officers here at a RCPI course on "use of force and tactics", and in the video presentations, they show an incident with a West coast PD (possibly even a canadian dept) trying EVERYTHING to stop a sword wielding nutjob( waterhose, less lethal bean bag, pepper spray,etc)- old knucklehead just wouldn't go down, and he kept swinging the sword.( Of course the media- people who AREN'T experts on anything 'cept running their mouths and manipulating peoples' opinions- complained about that incident)

That was the guy in Seattle......quite a few years ago now.....
What is even more funny, is that we would most likely blast that knucklehead in short order......yet they are using a video that shows otherwise.....

Remember back in November when a security guard shot and killed a guy wielding 2 swords at the Scientology center. Here is the article from the LA TIMES.

So the public wants a cop who can barely qualify to try and shoot a guy in the knee... Hum, thats about a 5-6 inch diameter target which is also moving. I'll stick with center mass, thats how I was trained and it's a bigger target.....:)

yeah ,but to the PUBLIC that shooter was merely a "security guard"-joe civilian- and NOT as well "trained" as police officers or sheriff Deputies (* because the ACLU and the newsmedia "know" we recieve magical ninja powers to withstand having our limbs sliced off ,or guts slashed out , so it isn't necessary that we "fiendishly and callously" shoot someone):rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
ever notice that the smarter you are ,or better trained and educated you are, the more liable and LIMITED you are?......

the video was basically on "what goes wrong" when you hesitate to do WHAT you know you need to do...( all the ****s poor application of non working "less lethal" force did was PROLONG the incident and further endanger the public and police officers.) Maybe one day while get a "star tek" phaser and can stun everyone- of course it will always be too expensive to buy for the Dept.....

We had a murder last year. Victim was off-duty Navy, working security part-time at the KMart and he tried to stop a shoplifter. Suspect was detained at the scene by customers.
What's interesting, is it turns out he was that same guy who had been reported swinging a machete around and threatening people about a month earlier. They found the machete in his truck.
Who knows how many lives were saved by shooting samaurai man's sorry behind?

....or the Long Beach grocery store shooting from a few years back. (Sharp edged tools should be registered, there should be cooling off periods and background investigations should be conducted on buyers before people are allowed to possess "assault weapons" like these! )
