I tested last Saturday. Around a couple hundred people showed up. Officer there said there are 2 maybe 3 spots for the April academy. If I passed, i'll be taking the PAT on the 31st of this month. Pretty good test. I can't go to the April academy, but I hope we get put into a pool for future consideration, if I passed.

Anyone taking the PAT this weekend? I got the call and letter informing me that I passed. Good luck to all that will participate on Saturday.

Has anyone been contacted for an interview yet after the PAT back in January?

I did not make it out to the PAT after the last written. So now I have to re-take the written this coming Saturday.

My guess is that they are filling an eligibility list for hire. Southwestern College just had a slew of graduates from December that were still open-enrollees.

I had the privilege of doing a ride-along with that department recently. Very quiet small city, filled with rich brats and jerks. They told me that they are hiring for 2 full-time positions right now. I am in backgrounds for a reserve officer position there as well.

I am going to be taking the written this month. Could someone describe the PAT? I just complete the PAT for SDPD, are there many differences or is it the same?

Coronado is also home to the West Coast Navy SEALS, Navy SWCCs, and other Naval personnel. I'd have a hard time working there because I would never be able to write one of them a ticket.

QRF, I have heard they kind of go out of their way to scratch them tickets. Could just be perception from the person I heard it from though.

Nope. A good friend of mine is a Navy SEAL. He did four deployments, then went on to become a BUD/S instructor. He got a ticket just outside of the gates of the SEAL compound for 10 over. See, I could never look a SEAL in the face and do that. That's why I could never be a Coronazi.

Okay, I know a SEAL who was harrassed by a young boot down there. I wasn't sure if it was a dept. thing or the boot flexing his muscle.

CPD doesn't go out of their way to harass the military people with tickets. They go after everyone. If you drive down the strand highway without seeing a CoPD motor than you are blind. It's just a small town with heavy traffic enforcement. Even I drive under the limit there. Of course a lot of military are going to get tickets with all the bases there.

Do you work around any military bases? Because if not then you don't realize that even military people can give attitude towards L.E. and get tickets, or get arrested. We've arrested military folks for DV's, dope, sales, etc...

Sure--- I've arrested military folks. Don't like it, but if they committed a crime, yeah, you gotta do what you gotta do. But a ticket. No. Don't have to do that.

I've have nothing but respect for those serving in the military, but IMHO, those that are disrespectful because of their perceived status deserve no courtesy and should have the book thrown at them. Tickets and all.
When I went to the CoPD station for my ridealong, I had to turn left. The street has two lanes of traffic for each side, with giant island dividers and turnouts. Oncoming traffic was piling through so I couldn't clear to turn left and yielded. Then a giant truck cuts me off to the right, completely blocking my view of oncoming traffic. On his windshield is a DoD sticker and a young kid in the truck. I roll down my window and ask him why he blocked my view of oncoming traffic so I couldn't go.
His reply? He screams at me to "go back to my country" because "I can't drive". He peels out into oncoming traffic and nearly causes a multi-car collision. Right in front of the police station. Wunderbar.
Agreed, there are tools in all walks of life. Military and Police included. However, my personal goal is to extend every ounce of discretion that I have to military guys. A lot of them have been through hell and back and I am not going to be one to add any more to their grief. I can get my job satisfaction in many other ways than by giving traffic tickets to SEALs and SWCCs. So again I say, I could never work at Coronado PD. It's just not my cup of tea.

I used to let military go on tickets. For the most part I stopped several months ago. My attitude now is, you do the crime you do the time. I work downtown and I would say a lot of our problems and traffic issues come from military people. Not the majority, but a good deal. It seems everyone who works at 32nd Street is a SEAL with two drinks in them. My favorite was the DUI guy several weeks ago who said he was a SEAL who caught Osama Bin Ladin...
I used to work Tierrasanta where there is military housing and hated it. Enlisted housing was like working some Atlanta ghetto. See the thread down the list about the SDPD OIS. That suspect was a rescue swimmer and allegedly was in BUDS. The the guy who shot at CHP last month was a Marine. Then go to ODMP and see the CHP officers who have been killed by drunk military guys.
