I just got my letter of conditional offer from Columbus. I had my oral board back in June and since then got a letter from civil service saying they were passing me through the process, but I have received nothing since. Then I learned about the freeze, lack of funding and budget cuts. Out of the blue today I got my letter of conditional offer with no date for the final medical exam. I thought it was weird and Im not trying to read into it too much, but has anyone else received this letter recently?

Was it from the Safety Director? I went through the process and I received a letter about 2 months ago saying the CPD approved my packet and sent it to the Safety Director for my Conditional Letter of employment. I'll keep you posted on my letter but my hopes just jumped a ton knowing this information! I do know people were doing physicals this morning.

Yes it was from the safety director. My physical date was not enclosed in the letter, however they did say that they would be send another letter with the date of my scheduled physical. PM if you want more details. Keep working out and stay out of trouble lightning350 you never know when you will get yours!! Lets hope that some funding magically appears next!LOL

No kidding I've been waiting for that ever since I finished. If you don't mind me asking how did all of your testing go, and who was your background detective?

I've been trying to stay in shape. Its so cold out side I stopped running and I'm done this P90x program LOL. Its hard as hell and I hate doing it at 5:30 in the morning. I signed up for the Arnold pump and run in march figuring that would be half way to the July academy ;-) That stress test is going to be tough, so I'm trying to stay ahead of the game.

It's a two year hold on the entire process. I just did the physical testing on friday with CPD and they were saying that there is no promise of an academy. Kinda sucks but there working on some different angles too. I was talking with someone at the academy about a possible sales tax that they are considering for vote. If that were to pass they would be able to have a class in june or july. Not positive on this but it would be sweet.

What does a 2 year hold on the entire process mean?????? I was just sent a conditional offer 3 days ago. How do they offer people jobs when there is a two year hold on the entire process. I don't know about everyone else but that doesn't make much sense to me!!!

Civil Service holds all tests and scores for two years. You got your offer of employment which basically means you have two years to get into an academy(from the date you took your test) if you dont, your looking at re-doing the process.

I know the list is good for two years from the day the test results are released, Civil Service told me that. The question is, What does a two years hold on the entire process mean??? i.e. No more testing for 2 years, Not excepting apps for two years........

cmsd380

And if there is a hold on the entire process, why are they giving written tests, physical agility tests, and giving conditional offers???

In the hope that something good happens and they can have an academy.

I'm with you CMSD380 Columbus needs 2 classes this year (July and December). I think a lot of questions will be cleared up once the fOP has settled the contracts. There are so many people retiring and it takes a year for a new recruit to hit the street alone. As for the 2 year holding process there are so many rumors floating around just stay optimistic about the whole process and hopefully I'll be seeing you in the July academy!

CPD is presseing very hard at trying to get a reserve class of 100 officers into the academy right now. I just received a letter from them asking me if I were interested in the reserve process. It seems like they are trying to get more officers on the street through the reserves, as they will not have to pay them if they go through this way. I have the email if anyone wants it. Srgt. Ermo is looking for more police reserve applicants to start an 09 class. He sent me a flyer to actually post around the city to try to get more reserve applicants. If anyone wants it PM me and ill email it to you...

I don't think I am going to go through with reserve here in CO, Im pretty far in the DC Metro process, but I wish I could. As I've stated before i think CPD is an excellent dept. If DC Falls through maybe ill just take the reserve way... I don't know....

I'm confused. I tested and went through the whole process (90 band and oral 1 hours long) I have not yet received a letter yet but don't understand why people would want to go through the reserves when you don't get paid? I have a full time job and have a family so this option would not work for me. I just hope CPD finds the money to have the academy but in july and december.

Lightning350 I'm in the same boat as you. I'm a fulltime PO making 55k a year base salary and cant afford to move 180 miles away to work for free. I will however, move 180 miles away and take a pay cut for my dream job!!!!

I can't even get my detective to call me back. Does anyone happen to know a general line to the background investigation unit? I tried looking online but I can't find anything, but I guess if they want me, they'll find me. They are cops after all. Its just hard to believe I wouldn't get a letter after jumping through all these hoops successfully

Don't know, I tried emailing my BI and she didn't respond. I received a conditional letter but I still wanted to talk to her. Maybe they all retired!!

hey thanks guys, if only i would have waited 2 hours and checked my mailbox, my conditional letter came today. things got delayed because I just moved, post office, change of address etc. The fine print at the bottom that says "subject to available funding" part makes me weary to get my hopes up. But hey, after more than a year at this process, it makes me happy just to know I haven't been forgotten.

Just received an email from my B.I., she said that under these unusual circumstances the Background LT would file for an extension with civil service if you received a conditional offer. If you took the test in Nov '07 and received a conditional your, eligibal for hire until 2011..
