I will be attending the Jail Tour at Mira Loma in Lancaster on Wednesday the 14th. I also plan on doing my ride along on the same day only because I don't live in Lancaster. What I'm wondering is: How long is the jail tour, and would they already be booked up for ride alongs 6 days from now?

Thanks.

The only way to know is to call and ask if they can schedule you. Posting here will not get an (accurate) answer to your question.

Try not to do it at Mira Loma, its not even close to what a real jail is like. Come down to Pitchess and try for East Facility or NCCF.

Amen, but go to MCJ the flagship of custody!

While you are at MCJ, take a sample of the air filters, and see if you can identify one of 100000 diseases that are hibernating in the filters.....the CDC still figure out what 99% of them are.....

You can also come to Pitchess and try "THE RANCH" South Facility.

You can go hands on at South (Handcuffing, searching) etc all the time, any time. Plus you can really work on your interview skills.

When it comes to physical contact outside of I.R.C, South facility is where it's at.

Seriously.

I don't know how many inmates i've searched out at South.

It's because the inmates we have are there on charges like possession, Expired license, etc.

Some of those dudes have history though, state history, serious history.

"Firestone" as in Century station?

If thats the case I could only imagine how that name came about. :D

Yup....that Firestone......

just because the inmates are in there on low level crimes THIS TIME around, it doenst mean they havent done serious crap before........

Stay safe up there....and warm.....I remember freezing my jewels off on EMs this time of year......

Yet back in december we had some cold nights, multiple guys wearing balaclavas looking like ninjas and divers. I mean cold to the point where when you got off and went to your car, the back window would have a thin sheet of ice covering it.

Bones from training day was at South I think in November for a suspended license. I never pulled him out to talk to him though.

My tour at CJ took one hour. And it smelled lovely.

Definitely call the station to make a R/A appointment! I had to call four stations 'til one had an opening AND said yes (that was ELA of course :)).

I left a message and I will bug them one more time tomorrow. There is no rush says my BI. Things are going slow I assume. I have Wednesday off so if I can get a ride along on that day, I will go to Mira Loma just to make it one trip.

The only facilities up there then would have been the old Ranch (which later became the minimum security facility).....was East (Max) built by then?

Can anyone give me staus if things are still moving along with LASD BI's? I totally feel out in the dark with this whole process, I tested on 11/30 and also had my Poly and inital meeting with my BI. I haven't heard anything, what is the current hiring conditions with California LEO's?, has the state gotten money from the Fed? I'm thinking I should fly back out and test with LAPD?, I cancelled my test when I was out for the LASD test. I gather I shouldn't sit and wait for all of this? Does anyone know how the LASD handles a person who applied for a CA position and a DT position? I originally failed the DT exam and took the CA test in which I passed, I flew back out for my BI and Poly and while out their I re tested for the DT in which I passed. I applied for both the CA and DT positions with my BI, how do they handle this? any info on this situation would be most appreciated.

Yes,, just the two, I worked the minimum security facility. They used to have the hog farm, dairy and the alfalfa fields that were all worked by the minimum security prisoners. Don't know if they still have those today.

They had a officers BOQ where you could rent a small room with all meals included for 20.00 a month.

Is the minimum ranch still closed? I remember it being shut down when I was the 9000 Classification Sgt. in 93 or 94.

I think you just wait. I took my poly last month and was told to wait for my BI to call. It might be different for you though, since you are out of state. Hopefully someone who knows for sure will chime in...

The hog and dairy farms, as well as the alfalfa fields were all there when I worked PDC in 1989-1990.......all, except for the alfalfa fields, have been gone for several years.

Ranch (Minimum) isnt just closed....its GONE......all of the barracks were torn down several years ago. The office and admin buildings are still there....rumor has it that another custody facility will be built on the grounds.

My partner and I just had a applicant r/a the other day. He just met his BI. They told him to be patient. They're still hiring and don't see them stopping. It just slowed down within this last yr. We have 10,000 + sworn, so there is movement. They might offer you a C/A position first, pending a Dep position.
Check out the other thread in the employment section. Alot of guys going through the process with LASD.

I heard about the hog farms and cows.

But yea go to Pitchess, I mean do you really want to drive to MCJ and back?

I did my jail tour in 07 at Twins.

Then when I was in CA #70 we did one day at IRC/Twins and one day at MCJ.

At MCJ we searched out cells, found a few razors in cracks above the cells on the inside. We searched the inmates and later in the day me my 3 partners and I, searched out fish lines.

Oh and I got a chance to work the 4000 floor in I think 4700 module, opening and closing cells, logging in info.

At IRC we escorted some inmates up some long corridor that connects to Twins and CJ or something like that.

I scanned the inmates wristband when they came out the showers and had to get the county blues lol.

Sh*tload of guys.

Theres is still renting of the BOQs you just have to qualify, you have to live a certain distance from the facility. I stay in the non renters almost weekly.

So do you miss the fresh milk and bacon from the dairy and hog farm?
