I want to get a new or lightly-used Springfield XD. I love the way they feel in my hand. I want to be able to carry it concealed: which models would you guys recommend, and where is a good place to get a good price? I want either an XD-40, XD-M in .40, or XD-45. Is the XDM too large to carry concealed?
I currently work in Oregon as armed security, and am in the interviewing process with several LE agencies. Are there places with a good LE/security discount? I can either order online or buy at a local place, some of which will match prices.
Thanks!

It all depends on personal preference, if you are a big dude then the XDM may not be too bad to carry concealed. I am 6' 230lbs, I personally carry a glock 23 and I think its a little too big for CCW.
As far as prices go, they will be pretty standard accross the board as these are new guns especially the XDM. Check gunbroker.com

the xdm is a bit big for concealed, but I think the 4" or 5" xd compacts are great. you should buy a glock;)

It all depends on how you plan on carrying it. For Inside the pants it's not so much even about barrel length as it is the angle and thickness of the grip and the XD definately has a slimmer feel and the enhanced models offer different sized backstraps unlike all but one model Glock. The standard XD is 4inchs. They have a subcompact that's 3.4. For decent prices if you are not law enforcement look at GalleryofGuns.com or Auction Arms.

I'd use either a waist holster or a shoulder holster...so I'm flexible as to mode of carry. I don't really like the sub-compact, it feels too small to me. Just a personal preference to be able to fit all my fingers on the grip.
I don't like Blocks. I have smaller hands,() and the Glock grip is just a square block, makes it uncomfortable. Besides which I dislike the trigger-safety-only setup. :) I'm one of those that believes they're only popular because they're (a) cheap (b) have a huge LE contract, and (c) are used in lyrics by rappers.
I do like the M&P .40, but why get what you have already? And it is a bit large to carry as well. I'm leaning toward the XD-40 or XD-45 4" compact.

Thanks! I have a bit more problem concealing than a lot of other guys--I'm 5' 11", yes, but I barely break 165 fully dressed on a cold day. :) So I have more problems with shoulder holsters, but I'm open to carrying in a waist holster. Would that help?
I was just quoted $410 and $459 by a dealer...sweet.

Just bought my Springfield XD .45 Caliber (service) yesterday. I got it for $630, and around here that's considered the police discount.

If you're looking for concealment, I'd go with a XDSC with a few Pearce grip extensions. The shorter barrel length is great for concealment, especially if you're going for shoulder carry. They shoot just as smooth as their 4" brothers. I've owned a couple and have been very happy with all of them.
Price wise, you should be able to find one new for about $500.00, used for anywhere from $400 to $450.00. Check out XDTalk.com and you should be able to find some good deals.

If your looking at the 4" guns I say you might as well go 45, but then I AM biased, I like 45's :-). The extra .1" of thickness will not make the gun any harder to conceal. I carry my 4" service xd-45 in a crossbreed supertuck. I sell the blk/blk XD-45 service for 495+ohio sales tax, the blk/blk with nite sights is 574.
