Oakland PD is attempting to contain rioting in Oakland! After the funeral ended, large crowds of losers took to the streets, attempting to turn over police patrol units, setting some on fire, luting, dumpster fires, etc. etc. etc.

Good luck OPD, kick arse!

BTW, where is the news story?....didn't hear anything about this until this post.

Whose funeral was it to cause all this?

FJ,

I'm sure you have been there! This is being shown on KRON 4 news in the Bay Area. It's currently live. Not good!

Eric,

Oscar Grant, 22 yr. old BMA, shot at Bart station on New Years Day.

Oh, that funeral. That one WOULD seem to be a bit....controversial.

The protesters temporarily shut down three BART stations in Oakland during the evening commute: Fruitvale, Lake Merritt and City Center/12th Street. Then the crowd became violent at 8th and Madison streets, as protesters set a large garbage dumpster on fire and attacked a police car, smashing the back window and attempting to overturn it.

Nearly 250 police officers in riot gear fired tear gas at the rowdy demonstrators, most of whom ran from the scene; a few threw bottles at officers. Smaller splinter groups of protestors continued their raucus march through the Lake Merritt and downtown areas — setting more fires, vandalizing vehicles and breaking windows at a McDonald's restaurant at 14th and Jackson streets.

Having worked a number of civil demonstrations over the period of my career I have yet to figure out why the idiots destroy their own neighborhoods.. When they do that, they have absolutely nothing.

And, the sad thing is those innocent businesses that are destroyed generally do not get rebuilt, leaving the neighborhood in total blight.

Some areas of the "Watts Riots" in 1965 have still not been redeveloped.

I love the press! Since those involved in the described incidents are only referred to as:
1) "the protesters"
2) "the crowd"
3) "rowdy demonstrators"
does this mean there wasn't a riot? I guess the police overreacted again, by showing up "with riot gear" at a something which was only a "raucus march"?

Dude, they are BERKLEY students....just the mere fact that police were within 100 miles of the "demonstration" is an overreaction by the FASCIST police!!

The fact that the news press points out that after the shooting, the police just stared at each other, and let out huge sighs of "oh crap".....for sure doesn't paint a pretty picture.

Initial reports claimed the officer thought he grabbed his taser, but fired his gun instead on accident. How common is that mistake?

I can't imagine that it is very common at all, most tasers I have seen on officers are on the opposite side of the gun:confused:

The one's I saw jumping on the LEO vehicles and pushing the burning dumpsters were not UC Berkeley students! They were not even out of high school.

Because OPD should have brought their raucuas gear! You know, pots for head protection and feather infused impact weapons (aka pillows).

Did they not teach you anything at the academy? :D

Just remember....LA is 'one traffic stop' away from a riot at any point.....esp. if it is a CHP traffic stop......:D

I doubt the "berkeley-ites" would venture into oakland. the ones causing the violence don't give a damn about "justice," only looking for a reason to act a fool.

My favorite quote:

“We live a life of fear and we want them to feel fear tonight,” an unnamed demonstrator told KTVU at the height of the violence.

No sense at all...
