Yeap....my B.I. told me that they are have a meeting the week of 12 Jan. and hope to figure something out. But as of right now, it's Jan. 27th for the next academy(35 people) to start and anything after that is a big "?"

I was wondering myself too. I took the Poly First week of December. My BI told me theres alot of issues as far as budget and concerns of the next academy. He also told me that the next academy could be June or July. Im asuming that people that are ready to go that have been hired waiting on an academy date, are going to get those spots considering the intake is 35 people or so. Which means Ill be keeping the schools safe for longer LOL!!

I talked to a couple Riverside County Sheriff on Tues. while i was doing hospital coverage on a inmate, and they were telling me that they are basically in a hiring freeze they just haven't announced it.

Thats about what I'm starting to realize Duke...its kinda like the government had been about saying the country is in a recession--everybody knew it was happening, but nobody wanted to admit it. Stinks, cuz I'm waiting on a reply from them. Hope my backup departments start moving soon...

Thats exactly what one of them said. They said the Jan academy class is pretty small and after that they dont know when the next one is. One of them said that last year they wanted hire 1500 new officers by the end of 2009

Yea my BI told me this was going on. I passed my poly in Oct. all I need is my medical and I'm in. RSO was told by the CEO of the county to slow down on hiring. I read this from an article my BI told me to check out. Your right about 1500 but so far for that idea. One thing is for sure whatever is happening people are not going to WAIT around forever. The federal side is picking up very fast!

Welp....I got my thin envelope from the RSD yesterday...looks like I'm gonna wait out a response from one of the other three departments I applied to and maybe look into the reserve academy...anyone know any details about the reserve III academy at Ben Clark? Total costs, meeting times, duration? (The website is kind of sparse with data, and I'm working today and tomorrow, and its a holiday monday...)

Lah-Dog,
Sorry to hear that dude. Where in the process were you? Any idea what happened? Had you signed a conditional offer yet? Med/psych? Good luck in your endevors.

Sorry to hear that. Did you also apply for corrections. Took them 10 weeks to finally assign a background investigator to me, but that was only for postiion of correctional deputy. I qualified for both deputy sheriff and correctional deputy when I tested. She said that they're not hiring for deputy sheriff right now.

No I did not apply for corrections, wasn't interested. I believe that was my only DQ, because I have a pretty clear record. The only other explanation besides a hiring freeze I can imagine had any effect on my DQ was the fact that I indicated that I did not want to work in the Blythe area, which they indicated on their site is primarily where they are hiring.
As far as the process, I dropped off my BI packet on December 19th and received the notice on Jan. 13th, (it was due on 12/31) so it didn't take them too long. Unfortunately, I did sign the No Feedback Waiver, so I have no clue why I was dq'd exactly. I have heard from more than one source that they are entering a freeze now, but not telling applicants--just disqualifying them.

Change your name to just plain KillJoy! JK. Yikes. I've got to call my BI soon to get the results of my psych. I'll feel him out for any new info but I'm not holding my breath.

Hello Lah-Dog. I'm glad you posted the info about RSO. I'm in the same boat bro, I did not apply for corrections. I wrote down Blythe as possible area to work no restrictions from my part that didn't help.My record is clean, the only thing that I have is a car accident in June 2006 and two fender benders on 2005 nothing else. The credit, criminal and employment records are super clean. I dropped off my BI envelope on Dec 29, ten days after you.however, I received the dq letter on the same day as you. What that tell you???? I call them yesterday and talked with HR people they said " I'll be able to re apply a year from the date of the letter" That is good news the bad one is, I think you are right... they are on a freeze now and they are just disqualifying people left and right. Good luck to you.

How did you do on the PAT?
Do you remember your combined score? (over 280, right?)

They didn't gave me the total score, I was told that I passed and sent to the bakground orientation. I remember doing the 500 yards in 1.28, the solid and chain fences in 7.5 sec ,the body drag in 7 sec and change. The obstacle course I dont remember but it was with in the passing score. So, I don't know what they didn't like?????

My PAT score was 342...no problems there. :)
That same date for the DQ letter is mighty suspicious I must admit. I posted this in another thread, but I also got a hiring slowdown notice from Fontana PD yesterday as well.
I had a similar turnout for the PAT too, though by the times in your run and wall jumps, I'd wager you had around 10pts more than I at least Cabo.

My packet was in their hands in early November. I have yet to hear anything back from them.....I assume it's just sitting in a pile somewhere. :D :o

Just so everyone is aware if you cannot score over 384 by the end of the academy (not hard), you fail, do not pass the academy, and no longer have a job.
So work on your obstacle course.

The fact it's even called an "obstacle" course is funny. I think there's 1 "obstacle" in the whole thing.

Does any one know what gear will be issued prior to academy starting? What will you have to buy out your pocket? And what kind of weapon will be issued?

You will be issued 2 class C uniforms and 2 PT gear. If you want extra you have to pay for it. You have to buy your own firearm. GL.

My biggest problem was the 500yd run...yeah it was cold and there was a 30mph wind in my face for the last half, but what really stunk was getting a bloody nose from the dry conditions after about 30 seconds of running. I came in at around 1:57 because of that. I normally run the same distance in under 1:35. My Obstacle course was 19 seconds, and my drag was 6.5 seconds. My wall jumps do need to be faster, I was around 8 seconds for each.

Don't kill yourself on the run, its only 50 points for a sub-minute run. You'll still get 20 or so points for a 2 minute. Just be motivated and show that your not going to quit when something sucks.
