Hey CA LEO-
I am looking for any CA LEO that has experinced the POST waiver process, i.e. you came from an out of state LEO department and went through the CA POST waiver process. I attempted to talk with the POST staff on it and they were about as ambiguios as you can get.
PM me off line- USAFFAMILY

If I may add to this, I plan to take the test out option for the BCWE rather than the requalification course. I have my learning domains but the test is only 100 questions. Has anyone taken this? Is it the most random PITA questions or is it fairly simple? Those LD's are mind numbing at best.
didn't mean to hi-jack, just thought it was sort of related.

I moved to California from Pennsylvania, I wrote to Post, who wanted my transcripts. I had been grandfathered in when ACT 120 started in PA so i lacked some required courses. Being Federal it didn't keep me from working while I completed them. Within a year I had my POST

In case nobody has responded yet, I'll tell you what I know.
My understanding is that you have to submit to POST the training records from your state. They will then be evaluated to see if the training you received is equivalent to their standards. If you lack something, you may have to take courses.
Once approved, you have to attend a three-week (136 hour) POST Basic Academy Re-Qualification Course.
If you pass, you are certified to work anywhere in CA. You have three years to get hired and if you don't you'll have to re-take the 136 hour course.
The course is fairly easy; mostly classroom, but they cover arrest techniques and firearms, as well. The courses are held periodically throughout the state, mostly through community colleges.
Some agencies will hire you and send you on their dime, but with the economy the way it is, I bet they are few and far between.

Next So Cal POST Waiver recert course is at the Orange County Sheriff's Academy 3/2 to 3/20 2009. If you plan on attending you need to get a POST profile printed out, Livescan and a medical exam.

^ According to OCSD's website, it's held at Katella. Here's a list of the requal course presenters:

Now instead of the requalification you can take a test?

yes, at Fresno City College. 100 question multiple choice, firearms test and "control & restraint" test. Just order the LDs from kinko's (about $75) and start the process as listed on the POST website. When it comes time for step three, just test out.

i went thru the requal course and had many out of staters in my class. I think the one day challenge is a lot harder...you probably have to currently be sworn and really know your stuff. The 100 quest test is not that difficult, but you still have to go thru Arrest and control and shoot as well. Depending on which academy you requal or one day challenge at, your Defensive tactics method might be different than what you are used to...koga vs fbi, etc..

Not sure how often. The course is at both facilities, Katella and Armstrong Irvine. Some days you will have to leave Katella and drive down to Irvine for the second part of the day. If anyone here wants the schedule for the next class PM me. It's a day to day outline of each class and start times.
