I know SFPD has a very high starting pay, but the cost of living is also high.
On average, what is 1st year take home pay?
Where do most SFPD live, in the city?
Heading there for a wedding in a few weeks, seems like a good town, but more expensive than NYC.

Most cops do not live in the city where they work, so that should answer that question.
If you are looking to apply with them you should probably look elsewhere, they aren't really hiring and the process takes forever.

SFPD actually does not take too long. If you are a lateral. Not sure for guys just starting out. Greta department but many liberals up there.

Thanks for the info, I am not looking at SFPD but had to ask the question. I got some family in both So and Nor Cal...we love it out there but houses are expensive. Everytime we head of west we say "man we should move out here".
I want to return to LE but has to be the right gig, good pay/benefits, and nice area for my family.
Pretty sure if we moved to Cali it would be SoCal, so LAPD/CHP/etc would be best choice.
Thanks again

First, you can NOT afford a house or Condo in San Francisco, most houses where i was are over a million and still going up. I paid $2,500 a month for an apartment but i could walk to work. That made me available for any overtime. I usually topped $80K. Nowadays many of the surrounding areas are getting affordable. Vallejo, Alameda and Antioch are now dipping under $200,000 and that's a good deal considering your salary. Problem is a two hour each way commute.
Good part, rack up the earnings and retire based on the higher salary and then retire to someplace else, like I did
