If you do a search, there's a monster thread in here that may answer more than you ever wanted to know. FJDave (aka IMACHU) is a sgt. with them. I just got assigned my BI today! :)

Penny,
How long did it take you to get assigned a BI for LACPD?

Sorry, Iron, didn't mean to steal your thunder. :D

Big Daddy (how silly do I feel typing that?), I don't remember the exact date of the oral board, but I received notice of my passing on Nov. 19. I was Livescanned and picked up my paper work right before the holidays, and my first meeting with my BI is in two weeks.

Thanx for the info Penny! I was just live scanned and picked up my packet a few days ago! I already have approx. 6 of the things complete, I was just wondering about the time frame. Have you done a ridealong with LACPD yet?
P.s.
The Big Daddy name was chosen because that's what my older two kids used to call me when they were little! "My Big Daddy"! :)

Cute! (to Big Daddy's kids). And I can't say for sure if the holidays had any effect on the time between picking up the packet and scheduling the interview. I haven't done any ride-alongs yet, but do plan on it soon. I wanted to meet with the BI first.

At least it's a lot faster than LASD. I turned in my paperwork before Thanksgiving and I still haven't heard who my BI is.

What is the test like? Is it just written or is there a physical test also? I am going to go to the seminar on Saturday.

There's no PAT for LA County Police. So far, they're the only agency I've run into that doesn't require one. The written is the standard POST test.

They don't have one for Kern County either. Just fyi.

Thanks guys. I am not worried about a PAT just wanted to know what to expect when I get down there.

On a side note, Mark, is your screen name able to work yet? I emailed Frank right after we got off the phone, so it should be OK for you to post now.

The practice post test (available @ post.gov) is all you need to rock it!

Anyone know what kind of retirement LA County Police has ?? Is it PERS ??

FJDave

Not PERS, it's LACERA - Los Angeles County Employee Retirement Association. But we have general retirement, same as janitors, nurses, welfare case workers, etc. No safety retirement.

Sorry! I know this is kinda long.
I have been invited to take the trainee test for OCSD on Sat. 24th and I was wondering if anyone can give me any insight into what it entails. How hard is the written test? Are there any specifically challenging areas I need to study harder for?
I had read that for the physical you need to run 1 mile in 10 min or less, then I read 1 1/2 miles in under 12 min. on the site it says 440 yd run, but no time limit is given. What is correct? Also, for the 6 ft wooden fence, is that just a flat wall? Can you take a running start to jump up it? Any info would be helpful.
I've heard that it is not too hard and to just relax and it will be fine, but I am nervous and it's coming up quick.
