I am one of the few open enrollee recruits chosen or the 79th Regional Academy at Miramar college starting on January 20th. The first thing I need to do is buy all of my equipment and workbooks before hand. I have a list of equipment stores here in SD, but I was wondering if anyone can tell me the best store to buy everything (my entire class 'B' uniform with everything, my duty belt with all the equipment?) I read in another post that ACE and EEE were my best options b/c CPE is going out of business?

Can anyone tell me the least expensive place to shop since I am buying everything all at once? I believe I have to purchase my PT gear on the first day of the academy, so I got that covered. I also have to purchase my LD workbooks and other basic manuals on Kinko's website which is really expensive. Does anyone have the compact disc where I can print off the manuals at my house on my computer for less cost? Any information would be helpfull, thank you in advance.

i'm too starting academy on my own and would suggest you look around for some deals on ebay and online. i was able to find a few good deals on ebay... a bianchi bw leather holster, $30 bucks, and just like new. Also check out lapolicegear.com (just make sure its in stock before you order)

also a good thread to look at for future reference...

galls. They give a large (30%) maybe discount for people going into the academy.

Order the post workbooks from the POST website. That's the cheapest way. printing them out would be like 100000 pages.

Good luck. Don't buy cheap stuff just because it's the cheapest. It's your life

I have always bought my uniforms at Ace. They tailor them and sew on the patches while you wait. EEE is a pain to deal with for uniforms, but they will have a better selection of other stuff.

Good luck!

1 thing to note, make sure you get an updated CD as POST updates their materials at least twice a year (minimum). Can't speak as to where you will get the CD, I never got one but I am not attending Miramar.

I always go to Galls for gear needs, I heard EEE has some great deals on Glocks. Have never used Ace, but that's great that they tailor while you wait. Ace offered my academy a discount on equipment and uniform, I think it was about 15%, not sure. I had 1 pair of pants tailored at Galls that was delayed for over a week.

Galls gives 30% off to recruits. At least they did when I went through. call them up. The only thing about Galls is that they are realy busy and you don't get your uniforms back very fast.

I got my gear from EEE. The customer service was excellent and I'd highly recommend them.

It's, of course, best to get all your stuff ready for the academy before it starts... but you won't need much the first few days. I'm currently in the 78th and this was our first day as senior class. I guess we're just waiting on you guys ;)

Good luck and see you guys soon.
