I realize that in a lot of cases the Glock 22 has been used by a wide range of Law Enforcement agencies across the country. I'm looking into making a purchase of a new sidearm. I've fired both and although recoil of either really doesn't seem to be a problem for me I am wondering what others have noticed that they may or may not like about either of the two. Which one is preferred and why or why not?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
On another note I've applied for a Class 3. No other purpose than for collection purposes as well as bragging rights I guess. I have an M4 and have been eyeballing the M4QD suppressor. Perhaps some of the SWAT personnel could give some insight as to whether or not its worth the money Id spend between the stamp for it and the cost of the suppressor alone.

I prefer rifles personally. I read up on the new M24A2 and it has caught my attention. I am wondering if anyone has had an opportunity to fire it and how it would compare with the M24A1 SWS. Definitely have a lot of saving up to do to meet the $10,000 price tag for purchase.

Thanks,

I'm not an LEO, but have owned a G22 and purchased an XD45 Tactical and XD9 Tactical this past Friday and got to put 150 rounds through the 45 and 200 rounds for the 9mm, over the weekend. Would a comparo of guns in the same calibers be more fair though? Having said that...

I've never found the finger grooves on the 3rd gen fullsize Glocks to work for me. They don't line up right. I find the XD45 to be perfect. Pulling the trigger, the trigger goes straight back w/ much less shooter induced accuracy killing movement than most other pistols I've shot. With the G22, I find it takes more effort to get a clean pull on the trigger and keep the sights aligned. I prefer the size and feel of the frame of the XD45 over the XD9/40, but not by much. If you've handled a Browning High Power, the grip frame of the XD9/40 is very similar.

The triggers are different as well. W/ the Glock, as you pull the trigger back, you hit a "brick wall" of resistance that has to be pulled through. I understand this is because once the Glock cycles, the striker is half cocked. That brick wall of resistance is the remaining 1/2 of the striker cocking action. However, the Glock trigger reset is very short. Also, if the Glock trigger is pulled and the action does not cycle, the trigger stays in the pulled back position, where the XD is always in the forward position. On the XD, the striker is fully cocked after cycling. When pulling the XD trigger, you're only releasing the safeties and trigger, not additionally cocking the striker. IMHO, this results in a smoother release point in the trigger. The XD does have a longer trigger reset though. Aftermarket trigger options are available for both the Glock and XD.

Way more aftermarket stuff available for the Glock. It's been out longer. XD has an ambi mag release. Glock take down is pulling the trigger, then pulling down the take down lever from right and left side, pulling slide back a little, then ride the slide assembly forwards. XD is pull slide to slide lock, rotate switch on left side of the gun upwards (kind of like a Sig), pull trigger, ride slide assembly forwards.

Either is a great pistol. A lot depends on how your hands fit the frame.

Thanks for the reply. I realize a comparison between a .40 and .45 isnt equal, however, they were the two I was trying to decide on. I appreciate the input.

I carried a G22 for 6 years on my old PD, I had no choice, it was issued, and I liked it. Got to my new PD where we can basically carry anything. Bought a G22 because it's what I knew and figured I would like it all the same. It had major malfunction issues with a light mounted on it. I lost confidence in it, bought an XD45 Tactical and love it. For me, it is much better than the G22. It has been 100%, fits my hand like a glove, and is just a great gun over all.

If you are going to carry a tac light stay away from the Glock 22. They have had problems with tac lights on them.

I definately endorse the XD 45acp in any model. I own a Tactical XD 45 and it's the bee's knee's. Ive own a G27 and have at one time or another owned six different model Glocks and I like the XD better in all basic categories I can think of related to carry and shooting. Glock has cornered the L.E market but it's not because they shoot better than the XD.

+1. I have personally experienced this, it is not just internet trashing.

However, if a light is something you want, the XD might not be a good idea either if you plan on carrying it in a holster. Holsters for XDs with lights are hard to come by. Accessories for Glocks in general are more common.

Otherwise, it really is just a preference issue. .40 is a little cheaper to shoot, and you have slightly higher capacity with the Glock. But these are marginal advantages at best. I think the recoil of .40 is more harsh and unpleasant than .45, so I will almost always prefer a .45 over a .40.

It has been said over and over on the web. Get whatever feels best. Internet recommendations are no substitute for handling the weapon yourself in real life.

Fortunately Safariland seems to be slowly responding to the XD. I carry my XD Tact with X300 in a 6280, just waiting for them to make the damn 6360 which is the greatest holster I ever used. I had one for my G22. I agree, so many more "goodies" for Glocks than XD's, but the important things like holsters and night sights are becoming more available for XD's.

Question for dogcop, does your pistol seem at all loose in that holster with that light combo? I have the same pistol/light/holster and my gun rattles around in the holster a bit. I have tightened the screw down as far as I can, and it is still loose. Its not loose to the point of being able to get out of the holster, trust me Ive tried. But it doesn not fit snug.

Interestingly, if I put my X300 on an HK45 and holster it up in the same holster it fits almost perfectly, probably better than the XD does.

I have both the G22 and the XD45 Service. My choice between the 2 is the XD hands down.

I only have the .40 XD but .. GREAT GUN... I love the XD over the Glock...

As the gun gets more popular, you/we should be able to find a good holster for it with the light attachment

I know you were asking for 45xd and glock 22 but I have the 40xd and glock 22. I am the oddball of the group I guess because I would take the glock over the xd any day. I have had more malfunctions with the xd than the glock. In my experience with the glock and light it is all magazine related. If I shoot the glock with the mags it came with no problems. If I use pd mags that came with guns with no rails I get FTFs. I don't care for the trigger in the xd. It may be because I have always carried a glock on duty and am just use to it. Don't get me wrong, I like Springfields. My favorite gun in the collection is a 1911 operator. Best trigger and most accurate I have shot in a handgun.

For me it was also, had no idea how much smaller in diameter the X300 is. I have had so many Safariland holsters that I have quite a "spare parts" stash I can draw from. For the retention screw, I replaced it with a longer one so I was able to make tigher. Bet you could even e-mail Safariland and they would probably toss a longer screw in an envelope for you. This eliminated my problem. hope this helps. Might be able to find the same thread pattern for the screw at the hardware store.

XD 45 way to go can not go wrong with the XD
