I've been sick since Tuesday evening. It's a throat, body aches, fevers, chills, and nightmares. It's Saturday morning at 0520 hours and i'm posting a thread. I AM A LOSER!

I should have gotten the shot! I never had one before, but i'm getting older. Some say the shot is for older folks. Maybe next year?

To all; take care of yourselves, and yours, don't get this **it! I'll keep it contained in Nor Cal!

P.S. I'm off from work for the last week, and I have a fridge in the garage full of cold ones. What a shame!

I get it every year, and have for the past 15 years.

Read The Great Influenza, and you will do the same.

Hey Willow;

Do you, or have you gotten sick from the shot? I've heard stories of people getting really ill after the shot.

Thanks

I have.....one of several reasons why I will never get it again......at least until we get a really serious strain of it here.....or I am in the 'high risk' group.....

The family doctor I went to when I was married more or less said to NOT get the flu shot unless you were in a high risk group......over 1/2 the time, they dont get the flu strain for the shot correct anyway.......

LA DEP, I thought I did hear that correct. I did hear some getting really sick after the shot. Kind of freaky! Makes you wonder with all these vaccines, and what they are doing to us!

I think ur crazy not to get one. The sick feeling is usually only experienced the first time you get the shot. Subsequent years should have no effect. This years' strain has been closely matched and should provide great protection. Last year was the worst match in years but no matter what, still provides reduced symptoms and duration. The only time I will forgo the shot is when there is a limited supply so that the very young/old and those with compromised immune systems can go before me. This year there's a surplus. The way I've figured it, the AMA, CDC and every other doctor group certainly knows more than me. I'm 38 and have watched many a friend/co-worker/family member suffer over the years and the last time I had it was the year before I got my first shot.

I got one for the first time this year and I haven't gotten sick yet, even though my wife and son both got the flu a few weeks ago. So far, so good...

Some of the side effects of a flu shot can be a low grade fever so people often think they got the flu from the shot....but this is not true.

Stomach flu here (viral gasteroenteritis). Since last night, no sleep in over 24 hours, and football and videos to keep me company. Both ends going at once, and I think I ralphed my knee cap up. There were times I didn't quite know what end to take care of first, then one would get the other going. Man, the 101 fever, aches, pains, and not being able to keep anything down is painful. I gotta call off tonight (for tomorrow PMs).

Sorry for the visuals, but I haven't been this sick in a few years. I forgot how nasty it can be.

I also found out that I wake up everyone within a 200 foot radius when woofing....sheesh! Sorry family! :D

LOL. (not about you being sick) Reminds me of when I had food poisoning. I gave up trying to figure out what end to take care of so I just got in the shower and let her rip. After 8 hours in the fetal position I finally dried up. Then it felt like A-Rod had hit me in the lower back with his bat for about 3 days. I dunno, maybe my kidneys or something...

The worst I ever got from the shot was a little tired, but never sick.

I did get a very bad flu back in the early 90's that laid me out flat for 3 days, then I had a relapse 6 weeks later. My job gave free flu shots every year, and the next year I got mine.

They used to just recommend for the elderly and those with suppressed immune systems, but that changed and they included health-care workers and those working with children.

I think that anyone who is a first responder should get the shot. Even if it doesn't cover every strain, it does give your immune system a boost, so while you may get the flu, it may not be a severe.

I haven't been this sick in years as well! The fever has me all loopy (well, that, along with the no sleep in over 24 hours. I had to ask my wife what day it was about 15 minutes ago. This is almost as fun as drunk posting! Well, no. :D Glad to hear you are turning the corner on this bug. I vote the stomach flu as one of the top 10 most nasty bugs ever!!!!!

^^Get well soon Dave!^^

The flu is a nasty virus, and it's scary that it mutates constantly.

Thanks folks. I feel about 50% better this morning, but my head is killing me and I've lost 11 pounds in 2 days. I was able to take some motrin last night which helped me sleep through the night.
