Hello fellow brothers and sisters in the L/E community. I have a question I hope someone can help me with. I recently had my exam scores re- activated and was placed on the military list. My exam number was 3007 (October 2003). Im one of those that dreamed of joining the NYPD but college was not working out, so I served my country in the Coast Guard for 4 years to gain the L/E experience I have and to be able to join the NYPD (talk about dedication and determination huh lol.)
Anyhow, Im done active and now wish to process for the July academy but from what I heard, only 250 will get through. What are the chances of me being able to get in this class? God bless, be safe and Happy New Year to all.

My questions are;
1. Did you call APD and have them reopen your case file ?
2. Did you tell APD your exam number and ask if it would still be active/good with the military ?
3. Did the person giving you those answers sound like they knew or were guessing ?
4. Have you received any paperwork since the call to APD ?
If the answers are 'YES', than I think (remember I have no vote here) you would have a great chance, if all other tests. psych exams, etc are good.

Well, not necessarily, if the test from Oct. 2003 is still active, then he has a better shot of getting in than most of the others because his test is so old. By law people with earlier test numbers have to be called first.

My exam number did expire BUT, I went down to DCAS and had it re open and its now good for 2 years. I was also told that I was placed on a "Military List".I have not started anything yet in fact, I called APD and they told me to call back the end of January. Of coarse, they sounded like they didnt give a you know what lol.

IF you have PROOF that your exam # has been reinstated and you received a passing grade in that test, then IMO you should have a very good chance.
Get in shape so that you ace the JST (no real reason, just pride in yourself !) get all your paperwork in your hands (read the various posts in the huge 2009 and 2008 class threads) and stop in personally at APD late Jan to get yourself into the mix for July/09.
Good luck.

If what you are saying is true you have a great shot at getting in because your exam is so old..

Yea sounds really good. Im in pretty good shape since im still in the CG reserves. I run about 5 miles a week now since I left active. I did get a letter 2 weeks after I went to DCAS saying that it is reinstated and good for two years. I definately plan on going down personally.

Not sure where you got your information from or what experience you have making a statement like that but he has a better chance than almost everyone because of his test number. The older the test the higher on the hire list you are. Its civil service so as long as you follow through with your investigator, psych exams etc than I would say you have a pretty good shot at being one of the lucky few

You will get in for sure in july if you try. You would de a def for jans class as well if you had everything done as well. Militarys tests are put on hold when they are active so your test is still good.

Thats the same thing I was told when a NYPD recruiter came down to my base about a year and a half ago. I had told him the reason why I was here in the military is so that I can join NYPD lol. He looked at me and said "For real? Jesus!" at that time the salary was lower but I told him I didnt care lol.
