I have been told that my academy start date is 2/2/09 but that there will be a pre-academy that begins 2 weeks prior. (1/20) I am wondering what the pre-academy is all about?
Does anyone know anything about it? The academy I am going into is Kern County Sheriff. I don't know if pre-academies are standard for all depts or what?
When I was hired my department had me come for two shifts prior to the academy to fill out paperwork (insurance, benefits, etc), get lockers, get equipment, get to know the building, etc. Maybe that is what their pre academy two weeks is for.

in addition to Sgtchp's post, the pre-academy will tell you what will be expected of you - the candidate, uniforms and uniform standards, tour of facility, parking, how to address instructors, muster, inspections, instructional materials, etc.
the things each candidate needs to know and be ready for....
good luck

How much PT is there? I am trying to determine how much time I have and if I'll be working out during those 2 weeks. (working out there VS the gym with my trainer)
I will be going in on 1/17 to fill out all the paperwork, etc. So I know that won't be part of it. I am supposed to call them this Friday to find out about uniforms. (not sure what the details of that will be)
I don't think this is the same as the class at Bakersfield College. That class is a lot more broad. We are all already in the academy so test prep, etc won't help.
