Hey all I am taking the POST test again soon and I did alright the first time around. I think what got me a 59.7 T-score was the last part of the test. Anyway I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of the quote that is used so I can be familiar with it. Does anyone know what it is or what it is from so I can go research it. Isn't it Abraham Lincoln or Mark Twain?

Eh.. They use the Mark Twain quote in the CHP test... just to clarify. I think it was this one:
"We have a criminal jury system which is superior to any in the world; and its efficiency is only marred by the difficulty of finding twelve men every day who don't know anything and can't read."

Dave this is the one that I remember. Did you think this topic was about something else by referring to "us old guys"?
Thanks serenade.

No, the "us old guys" comment was for those who have taken the older testing process (for me it was 20 years ago) and have no darned idea what quote you were speaking of....thanks for the clarification! I am a huge Mark Twain fan, info only.

The POST test I took had a CLOZE portion that was about the jury system in America and its comparisons/short-comings/history.
The quote was from Twain:
"The jury system puts a ban upon intelligence and honesty and a premium upon ignorance, stupidity and perjury."

Not to be a party-pooper -- OK, to be one -- isn't this cheating????

Well... he says this is his second time, so he has already seen the test and knows what to study for. But technically, probably.

This quote sounds familiar too. Better study both, I can't remember.

This is the correct quote.
However, not all of the passages at the end are the same, so don't hold your breath on getting the same one.

Does the CHP test have a essay portion to it that they add? I only remember taking the multiple choice and the Cloze test when I took it before.

4. WRITTEN EXAMINATION. The written examination was developed by CHP and POST to determine if the applicant possesses the minimum reading and writing proficiency needed to successfully perform the duties of a CHP officer. This is not a test of law enforcement or knowledge of the CHP.
Note: Effective July 22, 2006, the 40-minute essay portion of the written
examination was eliminated.
a. The Written Examination. The written examination consists of multiple
choice and fill-in-the-blank. There are approximately 125 questions covering
spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension. You have
approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete this portion of the test. See Annex C for a sample written test.
b. Written Examination Preparation. Applicants often ask how they can
prepare for the written examination phase of the cadet testing process. There
are several options you may wish to consider:

I don't mean to sound callous, but from your series of questions may I suggest that you learn to read and understand what you are reading. It could not be any clearer. Reading comprehension is one of the requisites for a CHP officer.

Sorry SGTCHP I will research things better before asking questions.:o
That URL is different than the one I studied and was told to study for the test. Mine was:
http://www.post.ca.gov/selection/poWrittenPracticeTest.pdf
and in there they talk about an essay starting on page 26.
I need to also say sincerely Thank You for your dedicated service to all of us perspective and hopeful candidates on this site. Your knowledge is very admirable and hopefully one day I can know where to look if I don't have an answer for something.
:)
