I haven't heard anything since the psych either. I have heard some people have been called in for the polygraph and final interview as recent as 2 to 4 weeks ago. I don't know if that means anything good or bad for those of us that haven't heard anything yet.

Talked to BI yesterday. My packet is complete with recommendation for approval to civil service board. I believe the civil service board is scheduled to meet the third Thursday in January.

Anybody else?
Does anyone know if they are behind with their background investigations or am I probably out of luck this time around since I haven't heard anything since my psych evaluation in September?
Thanks.

if its been that long your best bet is to check in with them.

I actually took the civil service test for this department among others so hopefully I do well on it. About a few weeks ago I received a Consent Decree Questionnaire form from the Rochester human resources which is basically a form that places you on the minority eligibility list.

I emailed about a week ago and called and left a message but nobody responded back to me. Doesn't look good.

I received an 85, an have not heard anything since the interview in September...
The last time I checked with background (a few weeks ago) they said the same thing as when I checked with them a few weeks prior, and that was that the BIs have a very high case load...etc.
Does anyone know what the projected start date for next month's academy is?
If we have not heard anything by now, is it safe to assume we did not get in for this upcoming class? Do they at least send you a letter to let you know if you did not get in, or are you left wondering?

what did they say on the phone when they returned your call?... and i think if you don't hear anything i think they keep your name on the list for a year so they can always go back to you down the road cause the economy is bad now when things get better they may come back to you. just my thoughts.

everything depends on the budget and what city hall will let them hire. Be patient they could call you at the last minute so be prepared for that. I'll see what I can find out for you guys.

Tactical, can you school me on the length of the academy, field training and any other useful information that might come in handy prior to the start of the academy in February? If anyone else has any useful information, I would appreciate the feedback.

The academy if 16 weeks , they use to have a 2 week post academy, not sure if they still do.
FTO, you will have a primary FTO who you will do final phase with and 2 other FTO's along the way. They will grade you on patrol procedures, general orders knowledge, traffic stops , appearance, report writing ETC. They will find good and they will find bad, don't get bent, just listen to them and do the best you can.
Get through the academy first, keep your mouth shut and learn as much as you can. Get some 3x5 index cards to write down questions on one side and answers on the back. This way you can quiz yourself. Don't worry about what you need to write on them you will know when the time comes.
Once you get into FTO, in your off time get out there and learn the streets, know what street comes next, learn the main avenues. Learn that even numbers are on the east side of the street and odds on the west, except if you work the west side of town and then it's different in certain parts of the city. Learn how the house numbers go up higher the farther away from the center of the city. There's a lot of tricks out there and the more you master, the better patrol officer you will be.

The academy is actually 25 weeks long. The next session is supposd to start 23 Feb. Tactical is right that the budget discussions regarding how many RPD gets to hire could change the number of hired officers right at the last minute. I didn't get my official okay to be hired for the county until one week prior to the start date.
Post academy is fluid. This current class has two different post schools. The county's school is two 1/2 weeks, RPD is 1 1/2 weeks.

see how they go changing the length of the academy since I was there over 20 years ago, how dare they................ LOL
no matter, you will be there until you graduate or fail out so i guess it really doesn't matter how long the academy is, your gonna have to stay either way.

NYSP61- Check your PMs.
Tactical- Have you heard anything from your sources relative to when the Academy will start and how many new hires? I went through the process and am anxiously awaiting the final word.

no not yet, the budget is really playing havoc with new hires and when the academy will be. Unfortunately it's coming down to the money or the lack thereof. They will hire some but not as many as they wanted to. I will check for you guys though and see if I can get a target date.

well guys i just got my dq letter in the mail yesterday which basically told me that my behavior pattern was not that of a police officer basically stating that i had late credit card payments and had got some traffic tickets no accidents or anything just traffic device tickets. yeah and also my illegal drug behavior cause i did marijuana 5 times when i was younger. it seems to me they r just finding ways to weed people out cause i know guys that had worse behavior then me and got in. but with the budget and things i guess its just bad timing.. no big loss though cause i still have a good job that pays well and with days of people getting laid off i can be so lucky to have a job..well good luck to you guys that are still waiting:)

it depends how young you are and in what period of time your actions took place. Those other guys you mentioned may not have put that info down and or lied about it and got away with it. It all comes out sooner or later, trust me, those with questionable pasts will be dealt with at some point in their career.

Finished my interview with the deputy chief today. All went extremely well. He said that I was hired and welcomed me aboard the department. He told me that official notifications will be mailed on Friday. Good luck to everyone else.

Got the call this morning!!!
Justice80- I live in a suburb bordering Rochester-it would naturally be subject to fian'ce approval, but if you can't find something permanant that quick and need a place to stay for a few weeks I think we would be able to accomodate you. PM me if interested.

Rochester Penny Saver has ads for apartments as do the local papers, if you need a paper sent to you let me know I'll send out the apartment ads and the apartment finder for you. That would at least get you a jump start.

Does this make sense to anyone? I went through the entire process and seemed to do very well. My BI drove out of town to my hometown twice to meet with my girlfriend, my family and myself. I had my final interview with him and the waiting game began. He said everything looked really good but he couldn't guarantee me anything. The only thing I thought could hurt me was the budget. I received a certified letter in the mail last week only to find out I was DQ'ed. The letter stated I wasn't fit to be a police officer with the RPD because of the Psychological exam results. Is this something that usually happens? I went through the ENTIRE process. The Psych exam was one of the first steps. Let me know if anyone can offer some advise. Thanks.
