I am new to this whole posting thing so I am not sure if this is the right place to post this but I am going to anyway.
I currently live in New York, but would like to move to California. I would like to join the LAPD. Since I have no family in CA I will be on my own. I wanted to know what towns around the L.A. area I could find a cheap townhouse/condo or even an apt. Again since I do not know the area at all could you please tell me what areas to stay away from. i.e. the "bad areas"
Thank You for your time

Let's start with the LAPD process. 1) Try to do expedited hiring so you can get several steps out of the way in one trip. Check out joinlapd.com for more. 2) Register and start reading the forum at policebackground.net. It's LAPD oriented and will answer a lot of questions about LAPD and other agencies hiring process. Good info for you!

You're likely going to get 1000 different answers on housing choices. For cheap and safe I'd say San Gabriel Valley (e.g. Covina, Azusa, Montebello) or San Bernardino County cities like Chino, Chino Hills, and Upland. The San Berdoo ones will be farther from LA city proper, and you're looking at an hour+ drive one-way. In Orange County you can find safe and relatively cheap condos in Fullerton and La Habra.

Thanks for the info. I was also looking into Huntington Beach police dept. Any ideas about that area?

HB has a LOT of ex-LAPD guys, and hire mostly laterals (one of my trainees works there now). Tight department, good comeraderie, and has its busy areas. Good pay, too. I have no idea if they are hiring now, though.

They are not hiring, and they probably won't be hiring recruits anytime soon.
