For an otherwise legal knife in NYC, does this fulfill the concealment requirement, or is this "exposed"?

Im not even sure if it is legal. You may very well be on your way for a CPW charge with that knife if it is "gravity". If you can flick it with your wrist and it opens up, its a cpw charge.
I have yet to collar someone for it, all I do is issue a summons and release.. oh yea.. I get to voucher the knife for evidence.

king of queens is 100% correct. You'd be a nice collar down in the hole ;)

I'm not sure if that particular knife is legal either, but I'm not on my way anywhere because it isn't mine and that isn't my flat _ _ _ in the picture.
My original question was about an "otherwise legal knife" of less than 4" and neither gravity nor automatically opening. My question was simply about the statutory definition of "exposed" in relation to an otherwise totally legal knife as you understand NYC law about legal knife carry for enforcement purposes.
So, assuming the knife itself is 100% legal in NYC provided it is concealed and not exposed, and assuming the possessor is not engaged in any illegal conduct or in a stolen vehicle (etc.) while in possession, would you consider this "exposed" too if nothing but the clip is visible?

It is a summons if a cop wants to be nice. Otherwise, you will be going downtown for a knife.

im pretty sure if the clip is shown. it is exposed. and that most folding knives are considered 'gravity' in nyc. i used to carry a knife but now i dont since i dont wanna get jammed up.
slighty off topic. what about a flashlight w. a crenellated Strike Bezel? are those illegal to carry in nyc?

Thanks fellas, that's all I was asking.
...most folding knives are considered 'gravity' in nyc.Nope. Unless it's so loose or lubricated (etc.) that it can be flicked open, it's not a gravity knife.

I'll take a stab at this: If you're not using it for any illegal purpose it's the same as carrying a baseball bat, regular flashlight, or a crowbar. If you threaten or hit anybody with it outside of a legitimate self-defense scenario, it's "menacing" or assault with a deadly weapon, also just like a bat, regular flashlight, or crowbar. If someone searches your stuff, you're safe from summonses...but not from ridicule; the ridicule is practically guaranteed.

This is my favorite C summons. I can bring in one almost every day and all I have to do is stand on a corner and watch people walk by. People can't really argue with you about this either. With drinkers they always try to say "I wasn't drinking" or " I wasn't holding that beer" Right after you watched them put it down when they saw you coming. What can they say about this? It wasn't in public view? Well how did I see it?
