I just read That Guy's posting about being only two days from the end of check out oinly to be put on hold. I had a similar situation last week, only five days from the end of check out. I was activated by the National Guard for homeland defense. I was initially told that I would be gone for six months which immediately made me fear I would have to repeat some, if not all of the FTO program. After ten monts of training between the academy and FTO, I realy wanted to make the milestone of checking out and moving to a regular patrol watch solo.
It appears that I'll be back on the street today though. We cut ack on the number of troops required for the mission and I was released (likely to be recalled at any minute). My department wrote off the two days I missed last week and I will check out on schedule. Needless to say, I am very gratefull to my department and the change of circumstances otherwise. I can't wait to start solo.
