I am considering buying a Taurus 1911 .45 and need your input. Good, bad, reasonable, good shooter.

I currently own and carry a Paraordanance P12 and want to get back to the slim .45 and cannot afford a Kimber (unless one of you out there needs some xtra christmas cash (lol)

Use the search function - you'll see that the Taurus 1911 has been discussed a few times. I'm encouraged by what I've read by the guys who own them. I'm in the same boat. I want a 1911, but Kimber's prices for what I want in a weapon (tac rail, etc.) keep me from getting one any time soon.

I know the one huge plus that Taurus has is their warranty. Lifetime warranty of the GUN, not just the original owner. If I had the extra cash, I'd get one just for that reason. I would have to throw a good amount of ammo through it, though. Just to make sure there aren't any kinks.

My buddy picked one up that a guy bought, had some work done to it and after bringing home, his wife told him to get rid of it. He got it for around $500, with the work. He loves it and it shoots great.

I own one and it is a great gun. I've put about 500 rounds through it w/ no malfunctions. The trigger is crisp and it is accurate. I am not a fan of the heinie sights but I can change when ever. I carry a Kimber TLE/RL on duty and would not trade it in for the Taurus but it is still a great gun for the money.

Why wouldn't you use it as a carry? If it is reliable and goes bang every time then I don't see why you wouldn't trust it? I just ordered the duotone model from budsgunshop.com, paid $598, including shipping, $15 FFL fee and the $75 rebate. I couldn't pass it up and have heard great things about this pistol. The negative things seem to be from people who don't own the gun and are ****ed off that they paid twice as much for basically the same gun.:p The complainats from owners would be quality control (when they first came out), the ambi safety coming apart (again, early complaints) and Clint Smith did a review where he put 5000 rounds through the gun with a problem at around 3500 rds (i think), the extractor broke, easy fix. Clint liked the gun and found it to be of good quality. I expect to have mine by next Monday and will have it out to the range that day. I will post a review with pics ASAP. I think after 750-1000 rds of hiccup free shooting, I would trust this as an off duty cc carry. I'll keep you updated..........:D

:) oh yea, for some great information on the gun and some very nice people check out taurusarmed.net and page down to the 1911. I gained a ton of information about the Taurus 1911 there. Good luck! If you are looking to buy this, do it soon, the rebate only goes till December 31;)

It's probably the best value out there for a quality gun just like many of Taurus products. I'd reccomend it.

COP07 I never said that I did not trust it, nor did I say I wouldn't carry it. I simply said that I like my Kimber better and and would not trade it to carry the Taurus. Another reason I don't carry the Taurus is because I did not get the model w/ the rail for a dedicated light. I have no problem w/ the gun but I like my Kimber. I have no ****ed feelings about paying $990+ for the Kimber and $530 for the Taurus, I'm happy I can buy both!
