The SP is not accepting "applications." They are now off of the civil service list now. You take the civil service test and select the SP as one of your choices, that it is it. You do not submit an application or any type of resume until your notified by mail that your under consideration for appointment.

Hey all quick question...
Do you have to be 21 y/o to take the test?
Or do you have to be 21 y/o at time of appointment/employment?

Thanks, all!

Google civil service exam in massachusetts. That should give you the info you need.

I do know that you must be 21 to get a License to Carry Firearms in MA so I am going to guess that you must be 21 to get hired. I know that 21 is our requirement due to the LTC age limit.

you need to be 21 to take the test as I missed the last test they gave by 9 days . . . . .

I'm thinking about sending in an application. I didn't see any residency requirements, but may have missed it. Can someone more familiar with the process explain to me how it works? Since I am coming from out of state, would I be eligible for municipal departments or just the state police? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You would be eligible only for the State Police. I have heard that the MBTA (Transit) may take people fro out of state but this hasn't been confirmed. I've lived here for going on four years, but since I'm in a dorm, I'm only able to sign up for the state test because MA will not count that as residency. Hope that helps

You can take the test but you cant select residential preference. So in effect your at the bottom of the ladder for every town period. Also you MUST be 21 to be a police officer in massachusetts. I am not trying to bust anyones bubble but unless your a vet your not getting hired off MA civil service. A co-worker of mine scored a 10 out of 10 and is a disabled vet and has STILL YET TO GET HIRED. The MA economy is in the toilet and state aid has been cut thus not a whole lot of hiring going on. Your better off looking in NH or VT or ever NY.

Civil Service Exam (http://www.mass.gov/?pageID=hrdterminal&L=4&L0=Home&L1=Civil+Service&L2=Examination+Information&L3=Examination+Schedule&sid=Ehrd&b=terminalcontent&f=cs_posters_2009_po_trooper&csid=Ehrd)

You must inquire at each town you select wether residency is required or not. It is not required to take the exam.
