Hello everyone. How long does it take for someone fresh out the academy to be able to do plainclothes patroling? At one point i used to think all plainclothes cops were all detectives of some sort.

Go into transit and you'll be working plainclothes in no time. I remember going back to the police academy not a month after I graduated and saw a good friend that came out with me in plainclothes training.

Kings is right. I was back at the academy within two weeks for plainclothes training. Once the LT saw he could trust me, he would send me, another cop and an FTO out in PC at least twice a week. Summer time is much better for PC though. I get it about 3 times a month in the winter, double in the summer.

Depends on the agency depends on your bosses. I worked 2 plainclothes tours during Field Training so that I could be "familarized" with it. We recoverd a stolen car, caught some kids smoking dope, and a few vandalizing a building.
After FTO, I did about 2 years in patrol before landing PC duty on an overtime or CT basis, usually for conditions crimes that we are having problems with or Warrant Squad stuff.
I love doing PC work it can be a nice change.
