What happend to all the rookies who used to post in here? I joined this forum about a year ago and there used to be a lot more going on in the rookie corner.

I would advise any new officers who read this post to get involved. There is a world (literally) of experience and wisdom next door in the squad room. It's great to listen through the wall but believe me, those guys next door love sharing thier experience with the boots. If we didn't enjoy helping people we would have run for president instead of becoming cops. I'm about to hit 2 years on the street and I still consder myself a rookie- Grab that keyboard and post- if you don't have a million questions then something's wrong (or you have the immaculate FTO...he seems to think he works at every dept.)
Just tryin' to help

I was wondering that same question. Where has all the rookies gone. I miss their questions.
I have learned alot from this board. Most from what the old(and in some cases really old)guys, however it was the questions from the rookies I enjoyed the most.
Even though I am not a rookie. I will be by this time next year. I have a ton of questions but I don't know what will be answered in the Academy, what will be answered by my FTO, and what won't be answered until I screw something up.

Just a real quick back ground on me. I am a Sgt in the Marine Corps. After 7 years I am moving on. I have just been hired by the California Highway Patrol.I have finished the background and the Medical exam completing a very long process. Now I am just waiting for an Academy date which will be either in August or November.

There wouldn't happen to be any CHP officers that post here would there?

I know of at least one "chippie" that posts here. There may be more.

Congratulations Ken,

Your Marine Corps experience should serve you well in the Academy. Being stationed where you are, the heat shouldn't be a problem either.

The academy has changed some since I went through. But I think they still do PT very early. Which is great...noforced marches in the blazing 100+ degree sun.

Any questions about the job itself...feel free.

I too am punching out of the military after 9 years. I have two promising LE jobs awaiting. The hardest thing for me is deciding which one to take. One is with the Feds (still waiting for an academy date) and the other is a PD position. I look forward to asking all the veterans about academy questions, once I reach that goal.

Well thank God I am still around. I have been posting here for about a year and a half but I have been so swamped. I graduated from my academy 2 weeks ago and I start FTO Tuesday night. Yes the beloved Midshift. I have asked questions about the academy and now I will soon be asking more about FTO. All I can say is that your life will change with this job. Well good luck to all you.

TG,

Glad to see ya back. (Nice Back) http://www.officer.com/ubb/tongue.gif

Seriously, I am happy you are back and that you made it through the academy. Now is when the "real work" begins, but so does the "real fun!" http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
