I am sure you all have heard about the Subway assault case. Now, I wasn't too sure about this so I wanted to confirm it. Since an assault is a felony, does this mean these officers will be suspended? Or will they simply get desk duty etc..?
P.S. Almost done with my classes, so hopefully I will be in the July academy.

You forgot to mention that they will also probably go to jail.

They will get the standard 30 day hit and then desk duty in another cmd until the outcome of the case.
The NYPD can suspend an officer for up to 30 days without pay, after 30 days, they have to pay the officer. The officer is usually put on desk duty until the outcome. In the Diallo incident, the city suspended the officers for more than 30 days, but that was with pay.
In the subway incident, the officers were suspended when the indictment came down, they will stay that way for 30 days. They will be put on desk duty, probably in a command with little or no public contact, central booking or something similar. The NYPD can go ahead with a department trial before the time is up, but that would be unlikely, they would not want to jeopardize the criminal trial by holding a department, or administrative trial before the criminal one is over.
If they are convicted, they will be dismissed based on the criminal conviction without a department trial. If they are found not guilty, it is possible the department will still bring departmental charges against them, they may look for a t not crossed, or an i not dotted, the city will view them as a liability.

umm..
The NYPD cannot have a departmental trial without the criminal trial being over.
The cops have 3 hurdles.
The criminal trial.
then
The dept trial.
then
The civil trial.
I do not believe the cops are suspended, but they are surely modified. IE:no gun and shield.
