Actually they heard that Don is the lead tactical instructor for the next entry level class. They're trying to widen the door of the academy so he can get in there with his walker. They don't want him to fall and break a hip.

be safe.

Perhaps we should start a thread where we advise rookies of our individual expertise in our different areas so that rookies will know exactly what professional advice is available to them.

Hey all...I'll start posting in the rookie section once I get my Reserve status (fingers crossed)...otherwise, I'll just keep pokin' in and see how everyone's doing.

I'm new here....got a question..How do you guys deal with the dreaded "know it all" rookie in you department? I'm really alluding to their attitude rather than actual intelligence, you guys must have met a couple somewhere along the line.

I see by your profile that you are a supervisor. This makes it easier on YOU. I

I agree with Don, sometimes you have to use the proverbial 2X4 to get their attention. Written evaluations will sometimes work wonders.

One of the Officers I currently work with, who has been here for 9 or 10 years, was recently reassigned to an area that he had little prior knowledge of (sorting inmate mail). He thought he knew what he was doing and didn't listen when told what to watch for. After several days, the complaints started rolling in, which eventually caused everyone else who sometimes assists to be chastised (share the blame) and our supervisor now has to double-check ecerything. (lots of fun).

I guess my point is that if you can get his attention early rather than late, it would be best for all.
