Nylon or leather? I personally carry two sets of cuffs; one in a bikini case on the front weak side, the other on a handcuff strap right rear. The theory being that no matter what side you happen to be rolling around on the ground on, you can get to at least one set of cuffs. I tried the double cuff case back when we had leather; we switched to the nylon this year, but I like the system I have now, so I kept it.
I also carry a set of Big Brutus cuffs in my bag in the car for the big boys. I also carry a set of leg irons and a waist chain personally purchased) in the trunk, a hold over from my days in corrections. Some folks just cannot have enough restraints on them. Better to have that stuff available if needed than need it and not have it.

I've used several kinds in my career and frankly, there wasn't a nickles worth of difference in them. Cuff cases are pretty basic stuff.
Currently, I use an Uncle Mikes double cuff case. I prefer nylon rigs.
I thought that the Safariland holder, made with the Safarilaminate, fell apart awful quick for as much as they costs, as did all the Safarilaminate stuff I had. I will say that I was working on an island at the time and the salt air may have had something to do with it.

I like my nylon, but any of them do the same job. The big difference is snap or velcro. I like the velcro.

I don't have the experience to say which is better, but I will say why I carry my cuffs in a full case instead of a strap... the few times I have been called upon to do a building search or set-up for a felony arrest, all the other officers with the cuffs on a strap scrambled to stuff the cuffs in their pockets, since they make too much noise.
Now, they do make straps that keep the cuffs exposed but keep them silent too, this may be the bikini strap mentioned previously. I personally like this, and probably will be upgrading to with soon.
Hope this helps.

tcsd: I don't much like the idea of bare cuffs on a strap in the back. In a struggle, you run the risk of having the cuffs open and jab you in the kidney. I think it was Calibre Press that ran a line about that - one officer had a career ending injury from that.
All my gear is leather and I wear two pairs of cuffs in the back. (I know that's not the best either, but with all the other crap I wear, I don't have any other place to put them!) I like the open top case the best. It keeps the cuffs secure, but readily available.

Actually, I just went to the CP Seminar again in SEpt, and as I recall, it was a set of cuffs worn over the spine that did that guy in; mine are more to the side right behind the gun. But thanks. I've thought about getting another bikini case or open top case, but there just isn't room on the belt anymore, and I definetely want two sets of cuffs.
I like the full closure with snap case. I always carried two sets, one behind the holster on my right, and one behind the OC holder on my left. As has been already mentioned, it can be very handy to be able to quickly and easily get to cuffs on either side.
And I like leather. I firmly believe that God intended peace officers to wear leather rigs! I also believe He intended sap pockets to be used for what He designed them for! http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Ya know, this is a great question to make it look like somebody cares about equipment and duty gear, so I will lock it here and move it there. Post any replies in that forum.
Thanx
